I am getting a replacement phone for my G2. I flashed the Factory image, and is now unrooted. But the question is, can they tell it was previously rooted?
Did you unlock the bootloader as well - to install a custom recovery and custom ROM. Or did you just stick an app on to give root access? If all you did was a root app, then no. If you unlocked the bootloader then yes, and that does void warranty.
At least that is how my Moto G was when i rooted it. Had to go through the motorola website to get the code to unlock the bootloader, which made me agree to void my warranty.
I put on a ROM. But I re-flashed the stock LG everything; firmware, software, and bootloader
My phone has a splash screen at start up that says it's been unlocked, but if yours doesn't have that then you are probably ok.
If you ever unlocked your bootloader then the bootloader will always remember that it has been unlocked at least once and will display it (it will always say unlocked or relocked in the bootloader). And resetting that flag is extremely difficult to do (or impossible if the SoC has a physical internal fuse to indicate bootloader "tampering"), flashing stock bootloader is not a fix for unlock flag as that information is stored in an EEPROM which cannot "flashed"
Thanks. Looks like I'll have to pay $299 for "tampering with the software"
If I try to boot into stock recovery, it has a splash screen, too. Damn. $299, now.
Sorry to hear it man. Unfortunately you learned the hard way - but note to anyone else out there - Unlocking the boot loader voids your warranty. So don't do it unless you are Ok with no warranty.
I have a Moto G, it was $99 and I don't care. Rooted and rocking Cyanogyn Mod KitKat!
I thought that it would just void the warranty from LG, not Verizon. It also didn't say that I would have to pay them if I did. They should really include that somewhere.
