I know that the tonymacx86 site is the most suggested site on this type of thing but I just really don't understand how I'm supposed to know if my hardware is compatible with the site so I came here asking you all if you can tell me if it's anywhere near close to being compatible.

not until apple comes to the lighter side and gets with the program of open source.
Apple has been with Intel for too long, so they no longer have any compatible drivers for anything AMD. I might consider looking around to see if someone with lots of time and a mean stubborn streak has hacked a copy of OS X to run on an AMD platform, but otherwise there seems to be little hope there.
