Can my router settings be optimized to give me better connection?

Awhile ago I purchased what I considered was a very nice wireless router because I was tired of all my other cheap routers giving me weak connections.

Overall, it has worked fairly well for me, but I have done nothing to set it up besides change the password and make it so the wireless output is maxed out. Are there any sort of settings I can make in my router settings to make it work better/more efficiently? Like would certain security types be better than others?

If any more details are possibly needed, please let me know. Thanks to whoever takes their time to read this and possibly help me out!

I'm not sure of the modem type, my internet company sent it to me for free as an upgrade because my old modem was old as dirt.

You can always check if 5Ghz is enabled. That would speed things up quite a bit if you're not too far from your router and if your pc supports it.

Furthermore I think it's mainly about the gear you have. Settings won't change that much as far as I know, but I'm by no means an expert.
