So pretty much that, I have 2 net gear Nighthawk routers and they're separated by about 30 feet, one is connected to a Comcast modem receiving Internet. Right now to connect the second router to Internet, I have to run a cable. I was wondering since they're both tri band routers, can I set a band (on the router with internet) to transmit to a receiving band (router without)?
That's called "bridge mode":

For best performance I would run the ethernet cord from first router to second router and turn off dhcp on second one.
I am assuming you are using the two routers to increase coverage in the house or business.
Bridge mode can work but I believe you will need 3rd party firmware to achieve this.
I havent attempted this on my Nighthawk, but if you go to the Advanced tab, tick: Advanced Setup> Router / AP / Bridge / Repeating Mode
Currently have an AC68U configured as a media bridge; connection is flawless 1300Mb/s between the two routers
Very interesting, what is the distance and amount of walls between the media bridge?
About 35'. It's a little overkill, but I wanted my HTPC to have a solid link from my main PC. It nearly saturates the 1G ethernet :P
Any latency testing?
The only latency testing I've done was through speedtest. Ping reports are identical when testing both PC's (9-11ms). Steam IHS is awesome, by the way. I tested DSII on the HTPC locally and through sIHS; aside from the saves, I honestly couldn't tell the difference.
Forgot to answer this. There is currently one wall separating the Nighthawk from the ASUS. The Nighthawk is wall mounted about 5.5' off the ground. I should note, the signal range is bananas on the Nighthawk; I kid you not, I get usable signal almost one block down from my apt (approx 200', -65dB). The r7000 is a seriously good router; I doubt Seventy_3 will have any connectivity issues once (s)he properly configures one as a bridge.
It's not to increase coverage, we have one router connected to a pc acting as a server for syncing data. They're both in the same room just trying to get around running a cable, the longest one we have is 200 ft and it looks unprofessional
can the pc accept a wireless nic?
Not without taking it to our admin guys, but they're slow, but I'll ask them to get us a computer with wireless connectivity, there is a better, easier way to do what we're doing but our overlords basically said "here's a program, make it work" basically we have a bunch of iPads that have to have certain documents on them. So, we have a normal windows machine with all the data attached to the net gear router. We connect the iPads to the network and sync the docs. Unfortunately Apple is a nightmare. I don't have administrative access to the machine so I can't install drivers or even update iTunes. I tried a wireless USB dongle, but no drivers soooo. I'm just going to have to run a wire for now, but I was trying to be creative.
Well I commend you for trying if you need any more help let me know. I have a few more ideas but since you basically have no admin access than its all pointless.
Just want to make sure you heard about the EASY hack to get into Nighthawks and the subsequent patch that supposedly fixed it yesterday? I'm talking full access to your network.... Not related to the OP except tangentially. Still thought you might appreciate the heads up.
Good to know
