Can I run 2x Nvidia graphics cards in SLI and a PCI-E SSD on Z77?

Hey guys,

My buddy has an Intel Core u7-3770 (non-k version), an ASUS Sabertooth Z77 and 2x Nvidia GTX 670s in SLI. He wants to add a PCI-Express SSD (in the PCI-E x4 slot on the motherboard). Will this system work? Does he have enough PCI-E lanes for this?

if i'm correct, then pci ssd's use 4 lanes anyway. so the 4 lane slot should work perfectly.

Hi, chipset offers 8 pcie 2.0 lanes for non-gpu uses. If the ssd is pcie2.0 card then its ok but adjusting lanes in bios is needed. Enter advanced mode, onboard devices configuration and change 16_3 slot bandwith to x4 , but it will disable rest of pcie 2.0 slots .

No this will not work because SLI requires a 8x connection to each card, and in that configuration you will have 8x on the top card, 4x on the second card and pcie ssd. If you ran the pcie ssd on chipset pcie lanes it would be gimped speed and still might throw off sli.

it will work;

2 x PCIe 3.0/2.0 x16 (x16 or dual x8)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (x4 mode, black) *3
3 x PCIe 2.0 x1

*3:
The PCIe 2.0 x16 slot shares bandwidth with PCIe 2.0 x1_1 slot, PCIe
2.0 x1_2 slot and PCIe 2.0 x1_3 slot. The PCIe 2.0 x16 slot default
setting is in x1 mode.

so it will work on paper...
his conf will look like

Cool. Thanks guys. I will give him this good news.
