Will it be ok to use a 2.5 hdd such as this one in my mini itx case that only holds 2.5 inch drives despite it being listed as a laptop drive?
You most certainly can :)
The only precaution would be determining the interface. that drive is a SATA drive. i am 99.99999% any motherboard from the last 5 years uses SATA lol.
Yes they tend to be optimised for power saving and maybe low noise but yeah the SATA interface is common across the different physical devices.
My cousin gave me his old laptop, i actually scrapped the 2.5" drive, reformatted/sector checked it and gave it to a friend for his Desktop PC to use for an alternate OS. Go for it. Hell, if you are able to, use an SSD. What will you be using the drive for?
Im gonna be building a transportable mini itx gaming/workstation in a lian li pc-tu100. Im gonna be using an m.2 ssd as my boot drive but I need some cheap drives for mass storage and this case only takes 2.5 inch hard drives. Good to know i can use these laptop drives in this case. Was worried i would have to cough up some serious money to put two 1tb ssd's as my mass storage drives.
I really like how compact that case is. how many 2.5" drives can you fit?
I love the case and everything about it. It can fit a total of 3x 2.5 inch drives so if you use an m.2 ssd for a boot drive you can get 3x 2.5 drives for cheap mass storage....I know that now thanks to you and the other guy that replied. The fact that I can put these laptop drives in there seals the deal for me with this case. Im allowed to be on my computer at work for about 6 hours a day and do whatever i want as long as work gets done so this case plus a portable monitor = much better than my current laptop i game and get work done on at work. Im a very happy camper :D
So cool. Plus, you gotta love that handle ;)
The handle is exactly why i started considering this case is because it sgonna be so easy to take to work and back home 5 days a week. The thing is tiny with a sturdy handle
