Can i overclock my HIS r9 270

hi guys , i have an HIS r9 270 iceq2x with a stock clock of 900/925 boost clock and i just want to overclock it , is someone knows how to overclock and what is the maximum safe clocks for this card ? i tried to find it on google but it only shows different model of r9 270's,im afraid to overclock this card because i dont know if this card is overclockable. really need help thanks ...

I am not entirely sure but I have the MSI variant and I run it at 1100MHz on the core and 1500 on the memory. Try using the beta version of MSI afterburner and mess with the settings a bit. Don't be afraid of getting a blue screen just means you will need to lower the clock a bit. Mine always blue screens past 1130MHz

You should be able to do some overclocking, get MSI Afterburner and find a GPU overclocking guide to help you find your highest stable clock. As for safe limits, the only thing have to worry about is heat, usually the maximum safe temperature on AMD GPUs is around 90-95°C, as long as you stay below the maximum safe temperature you will be fine

thanks guys, but do you think my coolermaster elite v2 500w can handle overclocking?

You should be able to get some overclocking done with that PSU, but I would recommend you tread carefully when upping voltages as to not overload it

500W is plenty. Your system requirement is likely less than 400W

ahm but the voltage of my card is locked , i turned it on in msi afterburner but still not turning on ,how about the powerlimit? should i increase to 120? even if i only overclock a bit like 950 mhz?

Go into settings and unlock the ability to overvolt from there it will be in safety properties

still nothing happens

You might have a BIOS restriction from HIS, try restarting Afterburner, you could also download HIS' iTurbo software and see if you can change voltages there

thanks ,i can increase my voltage on iturbo :) do you think its ok if i overclock it to 1000mhz? it is safe?

Yes, you can go as high as you want as long as its stable and cool

Similar to many XFX cards the HIS cards are hardware voltage locked, meaning there is nothing you can do... I have the HIS R9 270x's in crossfire. I knew that they were hardware locked before I got them, were really cheap though.

yeah but can i overclocked it?

Yes, but in a limited manner. They are not cards you would put underwater and extreme overclock them but for small basic oc's they will been fine.

Yeah, sounds like your card is voltage locked.  Not surprising, as many companies do it to limit the amount of fried cards they get back from people who failed their overclocks.

Slowly bump up the core clock and test stability in a game or two.  Reset and do it for the memory clock.  Then, set both the core and memory to the maximum speeds you were able to get stable, and you should be good.  If you are still experiencing instabilities in games, turn down the clocks for core and memory a little bit at a time until it works fine.

should i increase the power limit to 120 ?even if i bump up the clock for only 50-70mhz?
