Can i have 2 different types of RAM, In a Desktop?

Ok so i ordered HyperX 1600Mghz Blu8 DDR3 (2x4Gb) RAM from NewEgg.com and then it turns out that Patriot Gamer 2 RAM also comes with the rest of my computer parts im going to buy they are both 1600mghz both 240 pin and both DDR3 the only real outstanding thing that isnt the exact same is the voltage so i was thinking can i install both of theses and get 16gb of RAM?

I don't think it is... reccomended to mix brands, but I since they are different voltage ratings I would not do it. That being said, if one were to be ballsy enough to do so, I don't think(unless you overclock) it will be that big of a deal.

uhm? dude overcloking the RAM? pretty sure your not able to do that? also the voltage is literally .1 volt off?

For the safe side, I wouldn't mix the brands for each kit. There could be some other alterations that we must look thoroughly. So withdraw the order or if it's arrived, send the Kingston back and order another Patriot kit. They're also a good brand and I got their tri-channel memory kit as well.

Link for the Patriot memory

Imma stick with 8Gb bying another set would be a waste of my time and money considering HyperX is already here my older brother is looking at what im doing and really wants the memory because he wants to build a PC as well thanks for getting the link and all :D

Oh ok, that's very handy! Glad that you could make use of the Kingston.

I put mixed RAM in my brothers APU machine, 2 Kingston and 2 Mushkin sticks but they both have the same voltage, timing, latency, and clock speed.  I am not sure if your sets will play nice together due to the different voltages.

And most importantly the PC has not melted or ripped the space time continuum.

is it okay to mix ram brands? lol

you guys obviously learned the non-ghetto way with brand new, non-used/handme down parts

yes you can mix ram brands and speeds and latencys voltages and even sizes too, you just need to set them the same speed, voltage and timings, it you don't have overclocking options then the Mobo will do it for you, intel has Async dual channel for different sized ram in dual channel, you can also set in amd wether it is ganged or unganged I forgot which has the independent ram speeds, but the other one is a bit faster

I think that's unganged that has the independant, never had the opportunity to work with such a setting.

The only thing that should be determined when mixing ram is whether it is ECC or not.  I did that way back with 2x512mb sticks of Kingston that were ECC and 2x512mb sticks that were not.  It did some funny shit like allowing me to install P35 chipset drivers on an Gigabyte 865PE.

Having PCIE driver algorithm working on an agp bus did wonders on my HD3850agp.  Not so much when I got matching non ECC ram and was forced to use the specified drivers for that chipset.
