Id like to start by saying thanks in advance. Im a total noob, especially since this will be my first pc. Switching over from Mac. Anyway my budget is $1000 US. I wont be gaming at all on this computer this is going to be strictly for music production and general applications. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
Hmm, to be honest, I don't really know exactly what will do well for music production... But I'm gonna give this a go all the same, going for CPU power, loads of memory and storage. Already tried drawing up an LGA 2011 build but I broke the budget with only half a computer built so can't go down that road. Give me a few.
Thanks, appreciate takin the time.
Just for something to chew on, can you list some of the applications you plan to be using? Perhaps I can do a bit of research into what hardware aids those applications the most.
Do you have an external amp, DAC, sound card etc?
Oh, this is a good question, the only sound engineers I've worked with all used external systems that interfaced with USB, firewire etc. If you need some special interface it would be important to include them in the build, could drastically affect the build.
I use Ableton Live, Fruity Loops (when build is done), Pro Tools and Reaper. All apps up to date. Along with various plugins etc like Native Instruments Reaktor and Massive.
yes i have a few different usb interfaces. Also have a M-audio fire interface but i never use it. Currently using a Motu UltraLite Mk3.
So.... Not gonna lie, I'm not completely sure about this build. But here it is all the same:

This CPU should be able to power through just about anything, 16GB of 1866MHz memory should give you plenty of room to have tons of tracks loaded at the same time and the mem speed should help keep things smooth. The cooler was added because, honestly, you should OC this chip, don't have to go crazy but we can help you get a solid OC out of it and have it finishing work loads a chunk faster. Two sets of storage on this, 240GB SSD for your OS, programs and most commonly used material or perhaps current projects, will have them loaded lightning fast so you're not toying with pens while waiting for your projects to load. There is also a 2TB WD Black drive, should hopefully give you plenty of storage (though you can always add more) for everything else your going to have for some time, all the same Black drives are some of the fastest mechanical drives your gonna find so even when having to load from it it should take too long. Without a graphics card you don't need too much power, so I've lined you up with a 360W Seasonic PSU that is 80+ Gold certified so you'll have a very energy effeicent system going. Plugged into a solid Asus motherboard with a good number of features that isn't complete overkill for what your doing. Wrapped up in a fairly basic yet solid case with FP USB 3.0 support. If you want a quieter system you may want to consider swapping out the fans in there with silent fans.
Since you are probably not gonna OC the CPU too much (unless of course your up for it, in which case please do), you could probably reduce the cooler I put on that thing, it might be a bit overkill. Tell me what you think.
Thanks alot for the feedback, now I got a direction to go in I'll look a bit further into those exact specs. Thanks again.
