So I'm discussing my first build, which will be for gaming later (after future upgrades) but it will have to crunch large data sets in the first instance.
My instinct is to go straight for the Mushkin Redline, or the cheaper Corsair C7. What do you think?
This is the skeleton build so far, with GPU etc to be added at a later date.
That motherboard is junk and you wont have any onboard graphics with an FX-6300 so you will need a graphics card to begin with if you want an FX processor build.
Got an old GPU to plug in while I save up for better, the mother board question is open for discussion...
But back to the ram question, any advice re it being a data modelling work horse? (before I upgrade it for gaming)
Highest frequency with lowest timings you can get in 16GB variety. More than likely something like 4x4GB DDR3 2133 MHz with timings of 9-11-10-28. For the motherboard I would recommend a lower priced 990FX chipset board like the ASRock 990FX Extreme3 since all you want is a 6 core FX processor and that motherboard has good features for the price it also supports reasonably high frequency RAM.
If you want something cheaper than an FX processor that has 4 cores and can overclock like a powerhouse, the Athalon x4 760k on an FM2 motherboard that sports 6+2 digital power phase design would be an option.
