'Byte My Bits' video on iPhone X taking IR pictures all the time

This is kinda interesting, I think.

nothing new been doing this for a long time. just so happens now that its done on stock with out having additional apps installed that do it.

funny the video is unlisted, was it when you watched it ? On topic - seems like the proximity sensor, however the main question is why is a fucking proximity sensor working while he is in an app ?

unless there is a turn off when close to object feature in the app the sensor should not work.

they can actually use the light from the sensor to make pictures of the face and if someone asks they will just say - " oh but this is just the proximity sensor".

Is it unlisted because he didn’t do his research?

He says its the infrared camera but its not the camera that outputs the lights its a separate light.

At most, the phone is emitting a periodic IR light from the ‘flood illuminator’ as apple calls it.

It also doesnt appear to be doing any of the face detection as that apparently uses much faster pulses or IR light in a dot pattern that he didn’t try to show.

So, at the very least, this is not any indication that’s its taking any pictures at all. only that its emitting the IR light at the time of his video on his particular phone.

that was… maybe 2 minutes of research I did.

Nah it’s just the proximity sensor I am sure about the light however I don’t understand why is the proximity sensor working while in an app. It should work when in a phone call and if you have enabled a feature like - " don’t wake up while in pocket" which is used against accidental touches on the display.

those are the only 2 scenarios that the IR sensor near the camera is active ( at least on my phone on android ).
