Bypassing an ISP?

Is there a way to access the internet without an ISP? If so, how would I go about setting that up?

Without breaking the law or paying a shit ton of money (essentially starting your own ISP with direct access to an IXP), I'd say no.  You can use free wifi etc, but it still goes through an ISP.
