I saw some deals around, and considering I've been looking to make an upgradeable personal computer for a while, I thought it might be a good chance to try to assemble something. This will probably mostly be a gaming build; however, I'm a CS student and don't mind digging into higher-power tasks. I may get into recording and such later on.
As for the build price, $600-$700 would be ideal - this build is actually about $700 because of a deal on the graphics card and power supply. I also saw Linus's video on the Pentium G3258, saw how cheap it was, and thought it might be a good choice, and if I was wrong, I could just upgrade later (which was why I chose the z97 motherboard). I already have peripherals, so that's out of the equation. My monitor is 1080p running at 60Hz in case you want to know.
Heheh, it's the anniversary edition so it's unlocked. Apparently you can get it up to 4.7 GHz OC from 3.2GHz.
I'll definitely get an after-market cooler - they mention using an H100 in the video but is manageable with less. I added the Noctua NH-D14, but if it's manageable with an even cheaper cooler I'd be fine with that.
It depends on what you want to oc to if you want 4.7 GHz a more expensive cooler will be required but a moderate oc will only need a cm hyper 212 evo. so yes the noctua will be fine with a high oc
Cheaper RAM could be used, as having a faster ram clock speed does not affect gaming fps.
At 1080p, 4GB isn't really necessary, especially on a mid range card like the 270X. However, that psu + GPU combo is pretty good, so I suppose you can keep that.
Well, the main idea was for it to be as upgradeable as was manageable - however, if you have suggestions for ways to make it a little cheaper without sacrificing too much, I'd be happy to save some. Right now it's just over the $700 mark with the RAM change.
Yeah, it sounded pretty good - however, this way if I ever want to expand in the pixel department (which I probably will), it won't be as big of a deal. I already invested in the combo deal since I was paranoid about losing it. :P
