I wouldn't touch anything old than an HPE G8.
I'm pretty much a Dell guy tho. R620 is where it's at... but C6220 can be had for cheap.
The only problem is colocation. It gets expensive doing more than 2A.

I have a DL380 G7 that I got for £80.
I filled it with the 500gb drives we pull out of laptops at work when we put SSDs in them so I got a good deal on them too.
It currently has Ubuntu 14 in it and I was planning on changing that and doing some kind of bare metal hypervisor and a VM to replace my NAS.
It’ll probably take me a while to work it all out so I was thinking about doing it over Easter leave.
Should be a fun little project.
