Buying an external Ethernet card

So, long story short: The integrated Ethernet card on my ASUS Maximus V Formula does not work anymore. It does actually work, but my download speed is always roughly redeuced by 60% or so. The same is true for the wi-fi card. The last couple of months, I've been using some external Wi-Fi card plugged into a PCIe x1 slot (the card is also PCIe x1)

I've been trying to fix my motherboard for hours, but I've decided to call the quits and I'm now in the market for an external Ethernet card and I need some advice.

My current bandwidth is 11/0.8

A more expensive card obviously won't raise these bandwidths, but can I expect other improvements like lower latencies? Can I at all justify an expensive ethernet card over a cheap one?

Thanks a bunch. I might order this or some other alternative. I did not think about USB dongles, which frees up a PCIe slot on my motherboard for something else.
