Buying a 4K Display

There are some blu-ray players that have 4K up-scaling, but that's not exactly the same thing as native 4K.

pc's dont support it well at the current time, broadcast won't be supporting it anytime soon, most media players don't support it = useless

you could call it futureproofing, but in the future they will be cheaper and of higher quality, so you'd be stupid to call it that

I can't think of any useful application for 4K, in fact, the adaptation for it hasn't reached to the point where it is justifiable to use that resolution. Computers can, but it require lots of GPU power to run, let's say, a game at that resolution. Hardly any movies/TV shows have yet to adopt 4K, so like the latest 802.11AC specification, we're not fully prepared to take on the innovation yet. This is really just a hobby thing right now.

I have come to the conclusion that it is too early, mostly because of overlordnick's statement.
