So I already posted about this before but didn't get any answer. Whenever I start downloading a game on steam it always pauses and says busy writing to disk. It took me upwards of 10+ hours to install a 5.5gb game. This started when I bought a WD Blue for extra storage since my 120gb ssd was filling up. I put it in and the problems started immediately. I bought a WD black and same problem happened. Even on Ssd please give me any advice. Already tried switching locations, speed limit, antivirus disabling, only having steam open at a time. And defeating my drive. Please Help.
Steams "Busy writing" can be triggered by both Steam and the operating system. This was mainly designed as a way for steam not to get in the way of the OS on single drive systems.
It is also a sign of a game that is heavily packaged, in which case the game has to unpack (taking some time on HDD) before it can be used in anyway. Is there any particular game this is happening on or all of them? (PayDay2 seems to be a big issue with the whole packaging thing)
However the fact that you are experiencing this across all drives and not just that the OS is on (correct me if I am wrong) is odd. See if you can track down any thing that maybe writing to disk within the task manager.
Oh one more question, OS?
Windows 7
Would it help if I installed a fresh version of windows 7?
i have the same problems sometimes; I just force close Steam and restart it and then it works fine.
How do you do that?
task manager
Hello I still need help. Please.
Hmmm, have you done any major hardware changes between the installs of windows? (Like motherboard changes)
No. I've only added a hard drive.
Give re-installing Steam a whirl and see if that clears anything.
When you originally setup the machine, did you install the latest chipset drivers?
i think so: could u give me info on what to do for both reinstalling steam and checking drivers?
Do you know exactly the type of motherboard you have? If so, you can go to the manufacturer's website and you should be able to download the latest drivers.
After doing that, and rebooting more times than a Seagate drive has clicks, you can remove Steam through Add/Remove in Windows 7. Click on the start button, then type in add remove and it should show up. Click on that, then look at the list of software and highlight steam. At the top of the page you'll see an option to uninstall it.
Good luck!!
