Okay so I downloaded a distro of linux and it's on my desktop as an iso. I then inserted a blank dvd. Windows asked me if I want to treat the disk like a USB or as a CD/DVD. If I want to boot a computer off of this disk which should I chose? And then where do I go from there? Do I just burn it to the disk and then it's ready to be booted off of?
it will be a iso file just burn it to disc...i use imgburn to burn disc's (windows is crap at burning discs) http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download
+1 For Imgburn, generally speaking windows doesn't burn ISO files correctly it will fail to boot properly or windows wont even see the damn thing after its done.
You could also look into using a USB drive rather then having to burn to a dvd, faster more reliable install to.
I personally don't use dvd's anymore. I've been using Unetbootin and usb's for a while now. Seems to be working much better. Installed Zorin on my fiancee's laptop Friday night off a usb in about 6 minutes.
+1 for this. Except I use RMprepUSB. Its like Unetbootin, except it allows you to boot to any type of ISO you want, with drag and drop support.
I have 30GB of installation ISOs on it. Just copy them to the Flash Drive and boot. Its pretty amazing stuff.
i use win32 disk imager and rite the linux iso on there
