Building R 5 system need help

I am planning on building a R5 1600 0r a 1600x system. Link of PC Part below.

I am really unsure about the memory and how it needs to be tweaked. Does it not plug and play? I would need help in that respect , if anyone can suggest the best available compatible memory brand , i really would appreciate.
Also are all the Motherboards brands (Asus Giga, Msi ) receiving regular BIOS updates that need to be implemented or is the platform still too early for a casual gamer such as I.?

Moreover i am hesitating between AMD 580 and Nvidia 1060 or 1070 any counsel will be welcome

Thanks in advance

Alright I think I can help here, since I own a r7 1700, and a rx 480, on a the same Mobo as the one in your list. Not an identical build as what you have here, but pretty close. So as for the first question, basically all ddr4 RAM runs stock at 2133, you will have to go into the bios and adjust the frequency, and on Ryzen you may not get the rated speed :frowning:. I think the ripjaws you have there are fairly well liked. http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/PRIME_B350-PLUS/PRIME_B350-PLUS_Memory_QVL_20170406.PDF?_ga=2.55156587.1171267892.1494548979-814688284.1494423744 there is Asus official ram list. As for the question BIOS. Asus has regular updates tot he chipset. If flashing your bios a lot is something you don't want to do, they have a utility the will handle it for you. (You will need this to change the color of the RGB fan any way.) Speaking of their utility that brings up one of the cons to this board. On Asus board only the Aura boards allow you to fully use the RGB light your fan, so you can only choose between Red Green and Blue. You can turn more than one color on at the same time, so you basically have six color options. As for the GPU question, I say go 580. I was recommending the 480 over the 1060, and the 580 is ever so slightly better so might as well go that route.

Edit: I will add that your PSU is a little more than you need, you could save a little money by getting a 500w unit.

G Skill makes a new series just for Ryzen, but it's kinda overpriced. I've had pretty good luck (along with most people) with Corsair Vengence LPX.
Yes you will have to update the bios
No its not that hard even for people not technically inclined to update the bios and up the RAM speed. MSI had a feature on my tomahawk called Mem Try It! Which has a list of the most compatible settings, just pick the highest speed that lets you post.

Thanks for the tips , Much appreciated.I will look up the tomahawk as well.
Cheers

Thanks s o much for your advice. Yes as you deducted i ma leery of flashing bios , i have never done it, but if there is a a utility to do it , then great. I was leaning towards a 580 as the 1070 prices are prohibitive in Canada. Each US $ is worth 1.36 Can ,. So yes the 580 is still great as i read it has a smoother FPS run than the 1060 . I had chosen a higher PSU , because the 580 draws more in game. So yes saving a bit more here and there will definitely help.

Also i can live with the memory running at 2133 if that does not hamper or bug up the processes.

Again thanks and if you think of any thing that might help me more , please feel free to respond.

Many thanks again
S

I found this utility to flash BIOS on Asus Mobo, is that the one you were refering to?

http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/ASUS-Update-Utility.shtml

It is only the support page for your mobo on Asus' website.

Most motherboards get regular bios updates yes.
B350 boards are basiclly fine for R5 cpu´s.

  • Msi B350 gaming pro carbon.
  • Msi B350 krait.
  • Asus prime B350 plus.

These are currently the better B350 boards out there in terms of vrm implementations.
Asus might launch some new B350 boards soon.
I´m personally not really blown away by any of the B350 boards.
But thats obecause B350 is lowerend stuff compaired to X370 boards.

If you really want a 'powerful' statement on what motherboards are great choices for you, check out some 'community' driven sites. Like Rymem.

Here:

RyMem Top Ten

These motherboards are getting the best results with DDR4 and CPU frequencies. I own a fantastic X370 board... not on the top ten list.

I still like it and hope updates improve it's usability and compatibility.
