Building Problems!

Hey guys, I've built about 4 PCs in the past, and me and my friend were building a new one recently, but we're running into a dead end. We've put everything together and upon powering the system this is the chain of events on the ASUS motherboard:

  1. Everything lights up, fans start up.

  2. Memory / "MEMOK!" light passes, CPU passes, VGA light passes.

  3. Upon getting to the PCIe x16 3.0 light the system crashes instantly.

  4. System automatically reboots and powers through all the lights and this time passes the PCIe light and hits the Boot Device light and idles there.

At this point an image can be seen on the screen of the ASUS logo and instructions to hit del or f2 to enter BIOS. But it does not respond to any key commands.

I had read that the board itself has issues with the original memory we had on this machine (8GB of Mushkin Redline) so we went with the manufacturer approved memory 8GB of GSkill Sniper memory. However the issue persists.

Here's the build:

Motherboard:

ASUS Z87-A

VGA:

XFX Double D FX-787A-CDFC Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition

CPU:

Intel Core i5-4670K Haswell

SSD:

SAMSUNG 840 Pro 128 GB

PSU:

Corsair HX750 750W

RAM:

G.SKILL Sniper Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)

What motherboard?

Sorry completely forgot to post it haha. I'll edit my original.

Do you have access to any other hardware from exsisting systems that are known to work?

Seems to me that you have a DOA something, PSU, MoBo, or GFX card.

Maybe try a little mix and match until you find the winning combination.

Start by booting the system without the GFX card and see if it is stable. From there try a different GFX card. Maybe try a different PSU, or try some of your 'new' components in an different system.

FIX

Don't have access to this system until Saturday, but I'll be trying a different gfx on it then. I'm thinking it might be the board, it's got symptoms of dead RAM but we tried a bunch of different sticks and nothing worked at all, and theres another person on NewEgg with the exact same problem with the memory controller.

How did you go?

Did you get it sorted?
