Building PC [Budget 800-1000$]

New to PC Building, have a couple friends that have built their own though.

This is my PC I researched and watched videos to find out what is best for the price, but I need some professional help. Reddit's BuildPC didn't help at all(No replies).

http://pcpartpicker.com/user/FearMikeHawk/saved/#savedbuild_211996

The first one is the 1000$ PC and the second is the 800$ PC

The Keyboard and Mouse are subject to change.

My main concerns are the Mobo(Don't know anything about them), PSU(I am confused how much power I need), GPU(I think the 7870 is great for its money), and the Monitor(Not great with finding those either).

The CPU for both of them are most likely going to stay, however I am not sure on which version of the i5 to get, but I know the 965 Black Edition is staying(unless better one is found)

Optical drive, storage and MAYBE case(I heard 912 is the best budget case out there) may change from suggestion.

Thank you for helping so much, I am new here and would love to stay :D

Billy Buttcheeks, i like that name, are you interested in overclocking at all? What games are you looking to play or what are your goals for either system?

From looking at both of your systems, and adding the motherboards, i already can squeeze a good bit more powerful graphics card in the AMD build vs the intel. Your power supply choice is wonderful we will not touch that, so let us start with the two questions and from your replies we will help sort you out on a motherboard for each system and maybe some really awesome graphs of what each system can do.

Thanks for the quick reply :D
I play League of Legends at the moment with some CSS, CSGO, and BFME II.

This laptop however overheats at 50+ C and crashes T_T
I want to play BF3, CSGO, LoL, Far Cry 3, Assassins Creed III, etc all those new games.

The Seasonic or the 750 one? Is 620 Watts good enough?

What cards do you recommend?
Important thing, I am buying it this upcoming summer, I just want this build to be ready so I can just change a bit for when im ready to buy

Here is the motherboard  i would use for the intel build, ASrock Z77 Pro 3, for $90 it is cheap and gets the job done. Ofcourse depending on your budget, we can increase the quality of the boards big time but for now i assume you want the cheapest possible unit to get the job done. Keep the rest equal in the build including the 7870, here are some gaming benchmarks with the 7870 at various resolutions http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548

For the AMD build, a ASrock 970 EXTREME4, does the job and for its price it is quite a good motherboard. I also changed the graphics card to the HD7950  to even out the price a bit between the intel build and the amd build. Here is what the HD7870 does agaisn't the HD7950 in gaming at various resolutions http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=550

The Seasonic 620 is plenty for either system in either configuration. The price of both systems should be fairly equal, the intel offers massive CPU horsepower and plenty of graphical horsepower. The amd offers massive graphical horsepower and plenty of processor horsepower. Just for a visual in gaming how the Intel does agaisnt that AMD processor vs processor, here is a benchmark http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=701 Scroll tot he bottom, there are 3 games there but you get the idea.

Also, do you plan on overclocking?

Oh I'm very sorry for not answering that question, I knew I was forgetting something.
No I am not, too nooby to do it, and I don't want a hot PC. I am going for a CPU heatsink aswell, my friend says the stock ones are not good. Can you help me there too?

I will remember your suggestion so I know that if I want to keep the phenom I can get that 7950 :D
Do you think the phenom and 7950 will overpower the i5 and 7870? I am guessing the 7950 :P
Yeah I got the Seasonic from Logan :D I love him. I remember when he was at Tiger Direct and I never saw him for a while and ran across a random video, like budget pc builds and I was like Heyyyyy its that guy

Ty for these mobo suggestions, I will add them!

Also how much do you think the price will drop by summer?

Will Newegg have sales during that time?
Or should I buy them from a different retailer?

The stock intel heatsink is sufficient for a stock clocked system, the phenom II coolers are louder then a low powered hair dryer but they do the job well also. Newegg has a sale on the Hyper 212 EVO right now for $25 with free shipping, if you want a cooler that one will do the job well and quietly as well. 212 EVO will also give you OC room if you ever decide to change your mind about OC in the future ;)

The i5 w/7870 vs 965 w/7950 is a tough debate, usually i opt for the biggest card system as most games like graphical horsepower more then processor horsepower still. Since the gap between the 965 and the 3570 is quite a large one, i honestly am in the same boat as you on picking one. I am hoping someone else will come in and offer their two cents so we can get a more diverse view on these systems, but for now my money is on the 7950 AMD build purely for the card.

If you are in no rush to get the system going, waiting is definitely good. Prices go up and down and who knows next month you might find a better deal for the 7950, or the intel motherboard etc. Newegg had great costumer service, they understand that parts may arrive DOA or have issues and they work with you, for online buying i trust them. Of course there are better prices elsewhere, example Microcenter has the best prices on processors(sometimes $40+ less then Newegg) but i would only buy from them locally as i hear they are a bit lacking in the customer service department.

I see, thanks a lot John for everything. I really do hope prices drop, do you think they will drop enough to upgrade the systems o__O or do prices drop slowly?

I will def check out those CPU coolers, thanks a lot man :D

Prices drop fast, the 7900 series cards may drop when the new 8000 series cards arrive so you may get a really good price when that happens. A better deal will come to those who are patient.
