Hi everyone, Im currently looking to build a new pc.
I have a decent budget in mind (around £3000 / $4800) and would like some input/feedback. I will also be looking to get some input during the build (a bit nervous about spending so much)
So the parts im thinking of are below (UK prices) scan.co.uk
Now on the case front im in 2 minds, so ive put my choices below
http://www.caselabs-store.com/magnum-sma8/ either a custom config from this company or the Corsair 900D.
Also i would be looking to add a custom water loop with CPU and GPU blocks too, but im still looking at all my options for my main components, so any help/advise is greatly appreciated.
There's quite a few things you could change to save money.
Is there any reason why you want the i7 5930k instead of the i7 5820k? If you're not going to take advantage of the 40 PCIe lanes, there's really no reason for you to pay extra for the 5930k. The 5820k is basically the same CPU, with the exception that it only supports 28 PCIe lanes. However, that's more than plenty for your build.
The Asus X99 Deluxe is £50 cheaper than the Asus Rampage board. Definitely worth looking into. There's not much of a difference between these motherboards except for the price and aesthetics. With those differences in mind, is the £50 worth it?
For the price you're paying for that 16GB Corsair Dominator kit, you can get 32GB of DDR4 RAM. The Corsair Dominator RAM isn't worth it, unless you're paying for the aesthetics. Even then, I would question my sanity if I payed that much extra for appearances.
I replaced the Samsung Pro with the Samsung Evo. You won't notice the difference between the two in terms of performance, but your wallet will definitely notice the price difference. I also tossed in a 2TB HDD just in case you need the extra storage.
The GTX 970 is a great alternative to the GTX 980. It oftentimes delivers similar performance for far less money. Is the occasional 10-15 FPS worth the £315 price difference?
Oh and last but not least, I tossed in a Corsair RM850. That will be more than plenty to power your system. The 1050w Seasonic is overkill.
Thank you for going over my build for me, this is exactly what i was looking for, and the £662 saving is a very tempting offer.
The only reason for the 980sli setup, was ive only every been able to afford the card below, or the "budget" option in my older systems.
My current rig has 2x 670s and i was very happy with them, but i always wished i had gone for the 680 even though the performance increase was 5% at best.
The CPU choice was made because i was originally going to use the 5960x but my friends managed to talk me out of that, So i may just go for the slightly cheaper chip as the savings may be worth it.
Current system below being dismantled and sold to friends. (Green HAF-X on the far right)
Just a thought if your doing heavy video editing I would jump to the 8 core if its in your budget. Or you can probably duel 6 core still in the same price range. ....
Like i said the mobo was indeed a bit overkill, i have to say that i personaly not realy like Gigabyte boards, so the Asus deluxe definitely gets my vote over the Gigabyte or the Asus Rampage even. in my opinnion the Rampage is a bit overpriced.
PSU, indeed 1050W is a bit overkill, however, its not that bad to have a bit of headroom, wenn you go with a full custom loop setup like that.
Ram, i do agree, that you can get cheaper ram, but this highely depends on where you gonne endup buying your parts.
5930K vs 5820K, Basicly there is not much of a diffrence between both chips. the biggest diffrence is the pci-e bandwith, the 5820k can only run your 980 sli on 8x, on which the 5930k can run it on 16x. However, i dont think this will be a big limitation, because there arent any gpu´s who can ultilize the full potentional of 8x /16x pci-e
So you could indeed save some cash arround the build.
