Building my First PC

Okay i will keep that in mind for sure. Aesthetically speaking I'm still really fond of the 500r. Also i noticed that you changed the ram. Is that an aesthetics thing or does the type of ram just not matter ,iimus speeds?

I found some better RAM than what I had listed before. But just an fyi RAM speeds don't really make a difference in gaming unless you have an APU.

I won't only be using it for gaming, although that will be the main use, i also render occasionally.

here's some more RAM

Looks sharp i think what i may do is take the heatsinks off the msi mobo and spray paint them. I read some of the user reviews on the Krait and it was enough to turn me off some. Plus i need this pc to last me until grad school is over so im willing to put a little extra in.

According to this review, the MSI Z97 SLI Krait actually has some performance hit in gaming.

Watch out.

Take a look at this perhaps?

Much beefier motherboard than the MSI Z97 SLI Krait and should handle overclocking much better.

Much quieter cooler - watercoolers have pump noise and are often more expensive while providing minimal improvements over large air coolers.  Noctuas are known to have excellent thermal and acoustic performance - you just have to deal with the color scheme.  There's also the Phanteks TC14PE which comes in various colors, but case compatibility is going to be a little tougher.

Much stronger GPU - R9 290 versus a GTX 760/960.  There's no comparison.

Higher quality power supply - OEM'd by Seasonic.  Excellent performance.  Efficiency may not be as high as EVGA's NEX lineup, but the voltage regulation on these are much, much better than EVGA's NEX series.

Okay I will keep that in mind. Another quick, well hopefully, question should i go with the EVGA FTW Z97 or the MSI Gaming 5? This would be for an 15 4690k

Gaming >>  Drop the cpu down a few notches, dont worry about overclocking the cpu and get a better gpu. Having a couple of extra cpu mhz does bugger all for the majority of games. An I5 with a midrange board plus a gpu like the r9 290 is all you need. 760's on their own are pretty weak (they're just old 670's), and at just 2gb you're shooting yourself in the foot.

https://pcpartpicker.com/user/deejeta/saved/#view=bRGwrH - i5, 290, good board & ram, xfx psu. Dont really need the cpu cooler but its on special and it will look nice.

I had mentioned this above, in regards to the 760 i actually already own it so I'm not going to upgrade that. next year will be the year of the gpu so to speak haha. and the beefy i5 is due more along the lines of future proofing i have the money now and likely won't for a while after this.

Both should be good as well.  I don't have a whole lot of data on those boards, but I do know that the Gigabyte Gaming 5 uses an all-digital 8 phase design for the CPU.  MSI's higher end Gaming 7 uses a hybrid system.  However, this really doesn't matter a whole bunch for Intel CPUs since they aren't that power hungry when compared to other chips on the market.

Okay. The reason i ask is because i found a good deal on the EVGA one and the Msi gaming 5 seems like it has a lot of features i won't use. Btw i really appreciate all your help!
