I think i want to have the Asus Strix Geforce GTX 970 4GB or maybe the windforce edition from gigabyte (don't know which one is better.) in the build but I don't know what other components I can choose that will work good with this GPU. I know a bit about building but I haven't got a clue which components work the best.
My budget is max 800 euro's. I prefer to spend a bit less. I want to try to keep it as cheap as possible but also want a decent gaming pc.
Do you guys have some tips?
And do i need to buy anything else besides the components and thermal paste and maybe an anti static wrist strap.
I would buy a magnetic Pozidriv screwdriver. Get a 3.40GHz or 3.50GHz Haswell Intel i5 processor (locked, unless the unlocked version is of a similar price on that day - the unlocked (i.e. overclockable) Intel CPU's have a the letter 'K' at the end of their name (e.g. Intel Core i5 4670K)). I would run the stock cooler. I would get at least a 600w PSU, and read reviews on them. Good in depth PSU reviews can be found at http://www.jonnyguru.com/ & http://www.hardocp.com/reviews/psu_power_supplies/. I would go for a Gigabyte or Asus motherboard with the latest chipset (Z97). It will need to be a socket 1150 if you want it to be compatible with a Haswell CPU. I wouldn't skimp too much on the board, £100 should be adequate. RAM, 2x8 GB of DDR3. Should be around £65. Corsair Vengeance is decent, but their are plenty of other options around that price point; read a few reviews. For the case make sure it has sufficient air flow. I also like the case to have a built in fan controller switch.
Hope this helps. If you have any question please feel free to ask.
Tim has the right idea about the PSU. And I'd also advise the same with the CPU. Go for a 4690k. Pretty much any z97 motherboard should do you. The Z97-A is a brilliant board. Do not waste extra money on the Strix, just get a Gigabyte G1 Gaming. Much higher overclocking headroom if you ever decide to get into that (you never know, you could end up watercooling). Kingston is very good memory, perhaps consider 16gb if you have money left over.
You can get away with a 500W PSU with a 970 if you do not plan to do a sli configuration. If you do, than you will need a 750 watt or a 850 watt if you want a bit more headroom (its not good to run a PSU at 100% load for extended periods).
If you go into the 750 - 850 territory I'd recommend a EVGA G2 750/850 watt. They are both designed on the same PSU 'architecture' and best value on the market. But I haven't really looked at many GPU's under that range. JonnyGuru is your best website in my opinion for a good PSU.
Thanks. I have a EVGA SuperNova 80Plus B2 Bronze certified 750W. I'll go with it.
As for the GPU I'm going to stick with the STRIX. I've noticed that the cards are all topping out at around the 1500mhz and 8000ghz vrm range overclocked and I like the STRIX for some reason.
