Months ago, I fell in love with a gaming PC built in one of the "new Asus motherboards" vids. Specifically, the one referred to as "the golden beast" (which will definitely be the nickname when I build it!)
I'm in love with everything about this system and I have a fondness for it's small, portable size. But I have a few questions:
Considering it's been a couple months since this video came out, is there any better parts to suggest that will up the ante but keep it in the same price range? I'm sure a bigger power supply wouldn't be a bad idea. I had planned on doing that anyways as well as finding a different case.
Also, I want to put Windows 8 on it as an OS just because it's the latest out there and I might as well have the latest if I'm going to build a new PC, right? But what version of the OS do I need to buy? A lot of them that I've seen have mentioned upgrading from Windows 7. Is there like a core version that is just Windows 8, no upgrade needed, that I can buy?
Like I said, this is my first time building a PC so I need some help and suggestions from you guys on this. It would be much appreciated!
First up, the ASUS GTX 760 Mini is the more updated version of the ASUS GTX 670 Mini. It costs a more but it'll be a bit faster and is more efficient.
Secondly, if your going to get Win8 then you'll probably want either Win8 Professional or Win8.1 Professional. I don't know if 8.1 is better than its predecessor as I have neither OS's installed on my computer nor have I used them, so someone else will have to give advice on that.
If you don't need the fast startup, fullscreen apps and touch support, stick with the Windows 7 Pro 64Bit. Windows 8 is not much different from 7, accept for the addition of tools geared towards users of mobile platforms.
Well, the laptop I currently have is an ASUS G50V with Windows Vista 64, so I haven't played with any of the later versions of Windows. I've had it for about 4-5 years now and, needless to say, it's showing it's age. It's been faithful to me as I've moved up and down without a chance to get a new PC but I'm afraid it only has a few months left. (could just be paranoia due to how long I've had it) I'll be surprised if it still runs next year.
