Building my first PC need advice

Hey guys, I'm a total newbie when it comes to building a PC and knowing what parts work/are compatible etc. so i figured i would come and ask you guys for help.

First things first. I have a few parts for my PC already which consist of:

 Case:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153

RAM:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104344

and Hardrive:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148767

Now for a few parts I'm lokking into:

CPU:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727&Tpk=AMD%20Phenom%20II%20X4%20965%20Black

Because it's a quad-core for 100$....I thought that was a pretty good deal

GPU:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161404 (was thinking of getting a second one in the future but for now just one)

And now for some questions....

1.)How does the parts list look so far? Good quality stuff or a bunch of crap?

2.)I need a mobo and have no idea what to look for so if anyone has some suggestions then i would love to read them.

3.)How much power am i gonna need for all of this? including a second GPU in the future? And I might OC a few things as well

4.)Are there any better parts than what I've listed for about the same cost?

Thanks for taking the time out to help a newbie :)

P.S. This PC is gonna be mainly for gaming...

Hi, im fairly new to PC as well. However ive learned a lot about computers lately, you have a very solid build so far lol. love the gpu and the cpu, cant go wrong with hyper x ram, the case is nice, power supply i would do overkill lol, never have to much power! things wont be shorting and adding that extra card you need higher grade supply

Power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182277

or with a little more cash to burn: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371049

MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131758

i really like this mobo because it is upgradable later on as far as ram and gpu goes:)

Solid build so far:)

Hope this helped

You build looks allright, the motherboard Ortho linked is good, as for the PSU - the 600W Stallion is more than enough. There is no point in spending more money on more power. As a matter of fact having a way overdimensioned powersupply will decrease it's efficiency, there is more power wasted in the AC - DC conversion on very low loads compared to normal.

The CPU you picked is kind of made for overclocking so you could slap an aftermarket cooler on it to be able to do that properly, and also to decrease noise, it's almost worth it just for that. The Hyper 212+ Evo is a good cheap alternative: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099

It did help. Thanks so much. However, i wondering what to do with all the space that will be in the case O_O it would look so empty...

But again thanks a bunch.

Thanks for the link, I was actually just thinking about the need to get myslef a good cooler too...

And are you sure that 600W is more than enough? again im a newbie so i wouldn't know.

It looks okay. I just want to point out a few things.

If you're planning to Crossfire, that CPU will bottleneck you. Get an FX-4300, or if you can afford it, an FX-6300. Then get a Cooler Master Hyper 212+/EVO if your gonna be overclocking.

And again for the Crossfire. I'd put my recommended minimum at 700W. Maybe you could get away with 650W, but I'd rather get the former.

If your budget is ~$650, I suggest this build over everything else listed here:

http://pcpartpicker.com/p/mXDT

Pros:

  • Significantly faster CPU with a OC potential of 4.6-4.8GHz
  • Mobo filled with featuers, heatsinked mosfets, 8+2 phase count, one of the best budget AM3+ mobos for performance
  • Caviar Blue > Barricuda
  • Antec One has excellent build quality, also has FP USB 3.0 support
  • XFX PSU has better build quality and much better warrenty (1 year vs 5 years)

Cons:

  • Mobo has no XFire support (though neither did the other mobo posted here)

If you can afford it, I strongly suggest this build.

WOW. like i said  i'm a newbie so just looking at the  CPU for the price...it's amazing.

very great parts list thank you so much

Uh, yes, you can run Xfire with that board. Only the primary slot will run at x16, the second at x4. As far as perf. losses, probably minimal.
