Building My First PC. (Gaming, mainly FFXIV: ARR)

  • Budget: $1000.
  • Country: USA.
  • Need Peripherals?: Yes. Monitor, mouse, and keyboard. Don't want anything fancy.
  • What Will PC Be Used For?: Gaming and Schoolwork.
  • Overclocking?: I'm on the fence about it. As of right now, no. If someone can convince me, then perhaps.
  • Watercooling?: I don't think I'll need it.
  • OS?: I should have a copy of Windows 7 around somewhere. If not, I'm sure I can find a friend with it. I will absolutely not pirate it. I'd prefer Windows 7.
  • Resolution I'd like to be at?: 1080p.
  • Games I Play?: RPGs, MMOs, Some FPSs, RTSs.
  • Specific Game I'll Be Playing: FFXIV: ARR.
  • Recommended Specs for FFXIV: ARR:

Operating System: Windows® 7 64 bit
Processor: Intel® Core™ i5
Graphics: NVIDIA® Geforce® GTX 660 or higher, AMD Radeon™ HD 7950 or higher
Memory: 4GB of RAM.
Disk Space: 20GB

  • This will be my first build. I'm really looking forward to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and that's primarily what I'm going to be playing on the PC for a while. I will use this for other games though (Torchlight II, Watch Dogs, maybe Dark Souls II, Metro Last Light if it goes on sale for really cheap, etc). I got some help on from some people making a build on PCPartPicker, but I'd really like some more people to look at it and help me get the price down to something reasonable. I'd also like to fit in a SSD with the budget, but I can live without one fine. I also need just about everything bar the OS, but it may be a good idea to leave room for it. I really like the way this looks, but it's over my budget. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1pRS0

Not too much difference in price, but I'm guessing the parts went up after you posted. I watched a video comparing that processor with an i5-3570k (both overclocked) on the latest benchmark for the game and the intel appeared to do a lot better with the game. I can find the link to the comparison if you want.
