Right now I'm considering building a pc on the LGA 1150 (Haswell) platform. When Broadwell comes out in 2014, is their any chance I could reuse the same same parts? (i.e. same motherboard/chipset, memory)
Its going to be a 1150 cpu so yes. Bare in mind though that there will need to be an updated BIOS (if there is support) needed to run it. Just like that of the sandy/ivybridge changeover.
Based on recent reports it seems like Intel will offer Broadwell chips on 1150 in Q4. I'm not as sanguine as Deejeta but there's a good chance it will work out.
There's also Haswell Refresh next year.
For those whose interest is just games I think it may make sense to ignore the CPUs coming out in the next few years. CPUs are getting a little faster but progress is slow and CPUs are available today that are more than fast enough. GPUs on the other hand will continue to get significantly more powerful, and the GPU has by far the larger effect on FPS / graphics quality. There are also middleware improvements that are relieving CPU workload a little.
That is just my coffee-fueled opinion, I'd like to hear counters.
