Building a PC

  • Budget. How much are you willing to spend? 3.0k-3.5k
  • Where do you live (what country),  and what currency do you use? Canada, Canadian Dollars
  •   -Is there a retailer you prefer? memoryexpress.com
  • Do you need or already have peripherals? (this can add to costs) I already have peripherals
  • What will you be using your future computer for? Gaming? Rendering? Mix of both? Or is this a home media PC? Mostly for gaming in 1440p (currently playing at 1080)
  • Do you overclock or want to get into overclocking? I don't overclock, I don't know.
  • Do you plan on going for custom watercooling now, or in the future? I'm unsure of watercooling...
  • OS. Do you need a new one? Do I? is it possible to use my current OS on my future computer? I'm unsure.

If you Game-

  • What kind of settings do you like or what FPS do you want to play at? Max settings 60+ the higher the better
  • What resolution will you be playing at? //or would like to play at. 1440p
  • What kind of games do you like to play? MOBAs FPS RTS
  • What specific game will you be playing (if you only really play one) League of Legends/DOTA 2

Other Notes:

This will be the first time I'll be building my OWN PC, I've had people build PCs for me previously but I wan't to be able to build on my own.

Thanks in Advance,

Justin

Are you sure you want to spend $3000? That's a lot of money and completely overkill for most people I feel. I tried making this build expensive and it still comes in $1000 under budget: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/ZY3z99

EDIT: Here's the link for MemoryExpress only: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/Vm6cFT

Anything higher end and I think you might as well just burn your money in a fire because gaming doesn't actually require a whole lot. On the bright side the build I pieced together gives you the ability to overclock in the future if you desire, but will still be more than strong enough stock. It's also mostly colour matched if you're into that sort of stuff.

Thank you so much, I had no idea this was the case.

I was just wondering if i wanted to have 980s instead? due to preference issues forgot to add that in :(

Using the same build I posted earlier a single 980 will come in at just under $2200 and two 980s will be just under $2900. A single 980 is very powerful as it is and two of them would would probably max out pretty much any game currently available even playing at 4K: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1351?vs=1075

Pretty much anything will work for LoL and DoTA 2 though.

Thanks!!!

Here you go. I added a couple good merchants since limiting yourself to MemoryDirect really nerfs the stuff you can get. I recommend taking a look at running Linux since you stated you mainly play MOBAs like LoL and DOTA 2 both of which are available on Linux.
