Building a PC with a HIS 7870

I want to build a system for about $400-$600 with this gfx card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161404

I'll be playing games like syrim, borderlands 2, battlefield 3 and want to play them at 1080p

Mainly I wasnt sure what motherboard and cpu would go well with the HIS 7870

Something like an i5(can't fit into this build), or a 4-8 core AMD CPU should work well.

Oh, I was about to start a similar topic :) I hope topic starter won't mind sharing :)

Basically, I upgraded my graphics card 4870->7870 about a year ago, and only recently realized that the rest of my old PC is really falling behind - I have C2D E8400...

Now I am mainly considering i5-3350p vs FX6300/6350, and need some recommendations:

On the i5 side is the overall speed and power consumption (hence heat and noise).

On the FX side is the price and a slight chance that it will improve in future games, that'll start employing all of them cores...

Now, the price point is not only important for the CPU itself since the most time I spend is in search of a proper chipset of the mainboard - as I'm not planning on overclocking, on the intel side I'd go with H71/B75/H77, but it seems like AMD offer better feature sets in the same price categories.

My only requirements are a decent amount of USB3 ports, some fast sata (planning on SSD) and a PCI slot for my sound card.

Any recommendations/corrections are welcome!

My old computer had a C2D e8600, along with a HD 7850.  I found that my CPU maxed out a lot, till I overclocked it.  I sold it with an overclock and got an i5 3570k machine.

The i5 will still probably outperform the FX-6300 as each core is more powerful.  Even with somewhat optimized games, the FX-8350 is just a little bit better than an i5 4670K.  The 6 core will be good for budget gaming, but if you had the budget, I would go with the i5.

Also, my old computer had DDR2 RAM.  If your computer has DDR2, you might need to get some DDR3.

If you're not going to be overclocking, most of the cheaper NB chipsets should work.

Motherboard's not crossfire capable, though.  You'll need an expensive Z77 chipset for that :P.

Sure, I'm switching from DDR2 to DDR3, but it happens in either case, so I didn't mention it at all...

The crossfire doesn't interest me - have it now, did not make sense in 5 years.

How loud might the stock coolers be for i5/FX6300?

Loud enough to notice, but nothing like a jet engine.  Kind of hard to explain.  It's just noticeable if you pay attention.  My computer has no sound dampening though, and is about 1 foot away from me(on my desk, a M-ITX Build).

Can I suggest getting G Skill Ram? I bought 4gb of crucial ram and it came DOA so I bought G Skill and I was all good.

Guess it's personal preference.  I've had a lot of Kingston, some Crucial, and some G.Skill.  They all worked fine.

Hm, I guess my main concern is whether it's silent enough while idling, because under load the graphics card is getting louder anyway, and the game sounds are either way louder.

My pc is also on my desk with a 250mm fan on my side...

270x is the same price, has faster ram and core, along with dx11.2

Is there a specific reason to recommend 760G MB with built in graphics?

And what does it mean, when they list all ram speeds above 1333 with (O.C.) - do you have to OC the FSB for it to work faster than 1333?

that 760G has 5 VRMs instead of just 4, and what that just means is that the "Max" ram speed of am3 CPUs is 1333 even though you can do 1600 just fine, it has the options its just depends on the memory controller which any am3+ CPU should do fine

well this topic took a dramatic turn to memory xD but i was planning on going with an amd cpu, probably just a quad core like an Athlon X4 760k 3.8GHz. would a 6 core cpu really benefit me in gaming?

If you get the right motherboard, you'll be able to upgrade to an FX-8350 when you want to in the future, as the Athlon X4 760K is pretty much the highest end CPU for the fm2 socket.

okay, so what would be a good relatively cheap socket AM3+ motherboard? i dont need crossfire because i wont be having dual gfx cards.

For up to FX-6350 or 6 core AMD CPUs:
