Agree with tacopat, I don't see why you couldn't fit in a i5 2500k and a 7850 under a $700 limit...
That said going with a FX6300 instead would allow him to be able to afford a 7870 and give him a big performance boost in games. For gaming with a $200 GPU, the difference between the i5 and the FX6300 is negligable in all but a couple games. Buuuuuuut if you want to appease his bias then an i5 with a HD 7850 would do just fine.
This will give you the best gaming performance for this price point.

If you want to stick with the i5, swap out the FX6300 for an i5 2500k/3570k, swap the mobo for a similar LGA 1155 mobo, and swap the HD 7870 for a HD 7850, as with the i5 you won't be able to afford both.
Nice. I built a PC with a 3570k and I would have recommended it to him, but he wanted to have a $600-$700 build including Windows 7. My personal preference is Intel and the computers he has had in the past were based on intel processors, so he just wants to go with what he feels is reliable. Thanks for all the help.
very nice build. Thanks for the help. He wanted to include Windows 7 in his build though (I though I wrote that in the initial post, oh well, sorry). He has Vista but it's really glitchy (cause it's VIsta) and he doesn't want windows 8. This build is pretty good. I build at PC with a 3570k and a GTX 660 Ti and through my research I saw the 7850's benchmarks and that is a pretty beastly card for the money.
Valve needs to hurry up and get steam running on linux properly, its saddening seeing people have to spend 15% of their build cost on an operating system.... That said, there are legal ways of running Windows 7 without have to pay for it, and others that you don't have to pay nearly as much (~$30 a copy)... I don't know if its still available (think it was called the family pack?). Alternatively, if you have access to the disk, you can simply run it without a key code and jump through a couple loops to continuously re-arm the trial period... not that much work. Microsoft is much more forgiving with the way they dealt with keyless version than they were with previous versions of windows.
Also, when it comes to AMD and Intel, its not a question of reliability, thats a concern for mobo and graphic card manufacturers. The difference between Intel and AMD is purly from a design point of view, AMD uses the same fabrication company as Nvidia.
Never will I own a Rosewill PSU again, I had http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182063 for about 2-3 months before it shit out and wouldn't push power to the mobo at all. I replaced it with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171055 and I couldn't be happier.
um that's because you bought a shitty My Little Pony PSU
Rosewill has good products and bad products, everyone can't be ASUS and be boss at everything
good Rosewill series include green, fortress, capstone and one more but I can't remember the name
all the Rosewill PSUs I recommend all have awards from several hardware reviews such as anandtech, hardware secrets, motherboards.org and a few others
it may seem like I just spew out the same generic list but I research the hell out of all the products I recommend, I used to be a quality inspector for an air bag mechanism factory I take qaulity seriously, I have used over 60 rosewill green series PSUs personally and ten fold that recommended on this site and not ONE post about "giga recommended me a PSU and died on me" thread so no one failing on me or the people of this site along with the great reviews and awards they have, I think its safe to say that it is a good product
again not all of rosewill products are good quality, that is why I recommend the ones that are, I can't really see how you even took it sereously when it looks like unicorn diarea, that just screams quality components
I wanted a gold certified PSU and wanted blue LED's since my whole setup is that way, Antec Lanboy blue case with a couple additional fans. It has a 5 star rating so I figured it would be a good PSU, fuck me right?
As far as the extra wattage, I use it to charge my hoverboard, that way Biff can never accuse me of not having power.
Kinda funny cause I read a few hours ago that you practically lived in a cardboard box or something like that and still find a way to access the internet, if I remember correctly.
