The Devil's canyon Haswell parts come out June 2nd, they are supposed to be much better at overclocking I'd wait till the 4790K and the Maximus VII Impact (Z97 chipset) come out before you do your build
I don't think the new parts from Intel this June will have that much of an impact to performance though. For the looks of it, its similar to my personal rig, you should be able to get 4.0Ghz on that Haswell part no problem but being a small form factor PC you may want water cooling instead. The other problem being the heat produced by the r9 290, with the DCUII having open airflow, you just want to be sure you can exhaust the heat properly so cable management would be a must.
Overall good specs though, very nice. That Intel part should compliment the AMD card nicely. I am able to push 60+fps in BF4 on ultra with my GTX 770 so your upper tier card should smack any game that hopes to come out in the near future.
Ahh my favourite! Love the mini itx builds! I have the corsair 130 elite. So I think that you should get lower clocked ram, in gaming you won't notice the difference, especially coz you have the dedicated gpu, you can save a lot of money by just getting 1600mhz ram and it'll be golden, which in that case you could get a 290x. What angel said above is a great idea too, get the RM series, great pricing, fully modular (critical in ITX cases) and is 80+ gold. But most importantly do not get a 3tb drive!!!!!!!!!!! They are a pain in the fucking ass believe me. Unless you can sort it out your pc will partition/shrink the volume down to 2tb and have that remaining 1tb un usable, it's just really bloody annoying and quite hard to fix. So i'd recommend a 2tb version. Also if you want to save space you could get an m.2 sata SSD of which you can plug directly into your mother board saving you space in your pc! All this could also fit into a bunch of other cases too (that is if you chose this case to be safe, still a beaut case though) like corsair 130 elite which is extremely cheap right now and the corsair obsidion 250d and the fractal node I believe. Sounds like a supreme build none the less!
corsair RM series 1000w psu and a gigabyte ga-z97n-gaming 5 with a intel core i7-4790k, corsair 250D, gtx titan, 2 wd red 4tb, 2 500gb ssd, corsair dominator platinum 16gb and a h100i
Is this a troll? Or a special breed of troll, a corsair fanboy troll, maybe? Interesting.
In case you're not a troll, let me explain why this is ridiculous. There is no need for this. At all. If you want to spend an extra $1000+ on simply looks with little to no performance gain, go for it on your own dime.
1. No need for 1000w, even with 2 titans and an oc'd 4790k you don't need 1000w.
2. No need for a Titan. Seriously. That card exists as an inexpensive workstation card, not as an uber-expensive gaming card, and people need to realize that. Why else would it have double-precision? There are much better performing gaming cards on the market for much less money. Putting a titan in a gaming rig is like putting a dual 10g ethernet card in a laptop.
3. No need for 1tb of ssd storage.
4. No need for "oh so pretty" platinum dimms. Save a hundred and get something faster at the same time.
I'm really hoping that this is not a troll, and that what I said 1. made sense and 2. was in any way educational, but maybe that's just my optimism talking.
All 3/4tb drives I have used have never done as you described unless I plug it in to an old raid controller. It used to be that you could not boot to them, but that has changed in recent chipset revisions.
Now, I will say the 3+tb revisions have a higher failure rate, and that is both from experience and from things that I've read, so I would recommend getting 2 of them in raid1, which would make it write slower, but read would be faster. Something to consider.
However, I do agree with everything else you have said. The only time I have noticed a difference in 1600 and 1866 ram is when I was hosting minecraft server, which eats ram like a pig, and even then it was only like a few seconds at server boot.
Psu, I also +1 the rm series. Not only full modular, but the auto-off fan is amazing.
Case. I really like the node 304 for its clean aesthetic, but the aesthetic of a case always comes down to personal preference.
Fans. The fans included in both the Corsair 250d and the Node 304 are very quiet, and almost inaudible when at low-med voltage. In both cases they will do an adequate job of cooling your system components, so no worries there. The only reason I would change them is if you plan to be doing heavy overclocking or if you're a stickler for looks.
