Hey guys, this is my first gaming PC build and I'm wondering if its a good one. I am willing to make changes to the build but please keep it under 900$
Thanks,
Tim

Do you really need bluray?
Not really...
I was putting it in just in case I watched a movie. But then there is the internet.

You don't really need a 8350 for gaming, and this build will give you a great OC on that 6300, and you can upgrade later if you want to.
Well i've been looking up benchmarks and I wanted to get a CPU as good as a i5-3570k but for cheaper.
If your going to be gaming the build army pig put together is better
You will see almost no difference between the 8350 and 6300 in games. the only advantage to having the 8350 is it overclocks better. Most games use only four cores, a few use six, none use eight.
So if i weren't to overlock you would recommend the FX-6300
While the fx 6300 does not overclock quite as well as the 8350, it still overclocks quite well, so unless you are a hard core overclocker, OC'ing potential is not a large factor.
So save the money for a better GPU, and do I need a better heatsink since im not overclocking.
There is no reason for you not to OC this build.
The problem is that I don't know how to overclock. Does the 6300 match up to the 3570k.
I would save the money on the blu-ray and get an SSD and would go with the 6300 if your're just trying to OC a bit. This way it should still stay under 900$. The 3570K is just a bit more expensive than the 8350 but you would only save 50$ on the CPU switching from the 8350 to the 6300 so maybe sell some underpants and get the 8350 :P
Forget about the 3570k. you are comparing apples and oranges here. The 3570k is a lot faster, but that extra speed translates into a negligible performance increase in games for twice the cost, not to mention that the motherboard will be more expensive too. Overclocking is easy, all you do is: download a stress testing program like prime95. enter your bios, and increase your core multiplier by one or two hundred MHz. boot into windows, and run prime95. if there are no errors or crashes, return to your bios and increase your core multiplier some more. When you encounter an error or crash, go to the bios, and increase your cpu's voltage, boot rum prime95, and when you no longer incounter crashes or errors, stop raising your voltage and go back to raising your multiplier. continue repeating this untill your cpu nears it's maximum safe temp while in prime95 (you can monitor the temp with a program like coretemp,) or when you near your CPU's maximum safe voltage. (google it)
Ok my friend says that he wants to spend the extra money on a 3570k, for his build, because he may do photoshop or video editing besides gaming. Is getting the 3570k worth it if he can then only afford the gtx 660.
anarmypig your saying that I won't notice a difference in gaming since im getting a 6300 instead of a 3570k or 8350
The 3570k is only worth it if the program you are running is very CPU intensive, which games are not.
editing-wise the 8350 should be even better than the 3570K since some programs can make use of the 8 cores and it should be a bit cheaper aswell
The GPU is the most important for gaming then? So don't spend to much money on the cpu but go all out on the GPU.
Correct!
