Building a future-proof, low-powered home router

Check out this one, Minisforum MS01

This came out after I built mine… would’ve tried this one first for sure

Hello I have two identical Intel x710 cards, two x16 risers, and an m90q gen 3 and m90q gen 4, both with updated BIOS. The m90q gen 4 works correctly with the x16 riser and the x710-da2. The m90q gen 3 can’t get past the Lenovo boot letters. Updated BIOS (the risers and x710s have been swapped, and the problem persists).

Ref riser is 5C50W00933 lenovo genuine

What am I missing?

I’m looking at my M90q Gen 3 w/ 5C50W00933 (BLD Tiny8 PCIex16 N Riser card). I’ve used it with two SuperMicro AOC-STGN-I2S X520-DA2 and they’ve worked just fine. Have you tried resetting the BIOS to factory defaults?

Yes, I updated the bios and reset it to factory settings, nothing helped, if I connect the riser and X710-DA, the system hangs on the Lenovo letters at startup, however on M90Q Gen 4 everything works correctly.

where did you get the other riser? could it be defective? do you have another card that you can test the riser with?

They are two different risers and two different cards, it is not defective, in fact in gen 4 everything works like a charm, but in gen 3 it gets stuck on Lenovo boot.

I know it’s a different riser card. My question is: How can you guarantee that the M90q Gen 3 riser is working?

I have two genuine Lenovo 5C50W00933 riser cards, both work in Gen 4 without problems (the computer detects and starts without problem) but neither of them works in Gen 3 (the computer does not go past the beginning of the letters Lenovo and does not continue in any way) I do not know the reason and neither how to solve it.

Check out the massive servethehome thread. Gen 3 and Gen 4 Tinys may use different risers. If they do use the same riser, check with a different PCIE card if you have one to test. Maybe the Gen 3 just doesn’t like the x710.

Oh, and make sure that the back of the card isn’t touching anything inside the Gen 3. I had an issue with a PCIE card where a bit of solder on the back of the card was grounding against something in my Tiny and it definitely did not work.

All I can say is, check that the riser is working 100% in the 3rd Gen. At this point in time the only alternative is to validate parts one by one. Good luck with your build! @Nozle_Gmail

OpenWRT has the One.

A more powerful variant to be manufactured by GL.inet with come out soon.

I checked all of that in the past but everything was fine, I’ll try covering B5 and B6 to see if that solves the problem.

I have already seen that forum in the past.
