Building a cheap ass gaming rig, question about memory

i am going to be building a cheap ass gaming rig very similar to logan's specs from his youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NoONgFEUo8

so i am going to be using the same cpu, motherboard, hard drive, case, and power supply, so these parts:

  • CPU: AMD A6-5400K 3.6GHz - 3.8 and can be overclocked  Dual-Core Processor  $69.98
  • Motherboard: ASRock FM2A75M-DGS Micro ATX  FM2 Motherboard  $55.98
  • Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 160GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  $39.99
  • Case: Apex SK-393-C ATX Mid Tower Case  $18.36
  • Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply  $35.99

but i wanted to use 8 gb of DDR3 2133 memory, i know that the motherboard will be able to handle the faster speed memory, but will the CPU be able to handle it? or will it run at 1866 speed?

this is the memory i was looking at:

You shouldn't have any issues with that memory.  The CPU shouldn't have anything to do with it.  You will need to make sure that the memory is set correctly in the BIOS.

alright, thanks for your help!

Hold on here, the trinity CPUs don't support memory faster than 1866mhz.

"(Update: AMD clarifies that desktop Trinity-based APUs will max out with DDR3-1866 support)."
