My friends are all looking at buying the next gen to play their games on, but i'm not going to get the next gen of consoles, and won't be able to play with them. I need a build that is around $600 and can be built by an external company. I live in canada so the 2 big retailers are ncix.ca and newegg.ca. I think NCIX will prebuild for people, and digital storm pcs look really cool. All I know is that we'd prefer nVidia for the gpus but couldn't care less about the cpu. We also need an os. It'd be optimal if the pcs were very small, too (mITX/mATX) so they could be carried around easily and look nice at a desk or at a home theatre using an xbox controller.
Well getting Nvidia over AMD doesn't make a ton of sense when you are building a budget rig. Also you won't find a prebuild that will offer decent performance at that price. You will be looking at building it your self if you want a gaming pc.
So in short build it your self.
Why nVidia for the gpus?
To my knowledge, NCIX will build it for like $50
I said I prefer nVidia. I Should have specified and said if possible to give an nVidia option and an AMD option.
I apologize for the misconceptions.
I had a sapphire 7770 for my secondary build, every game would crash using it. The cooler was on right, had latest drivers, etc.
Bought a 650ti boost, every game worked. Same thing when I switched out the 7770 for a gt 640.
Well you must have gotten a bad card cause my last 3 cards were AMD and never really had a problem. I had Nvidia to and they are great specially with drivers but I never notice a huge difference between them. Anyways, if they will build it that cheap then that will work, but normally you don't want to buy every thing from just one site. You get better bang for you buck by shopping around.
There's only 2 big sites in Canada, ncix and newegg.
Also this build/builds would not be for me, I've already got a rig that will get it's finishing touches this monday.
If it was for me then i'd be building it myself. My friends are a tad technologically disqualified and don't have a grasp on pc building, I figure it'd be better for them to get it built by someone else, so if I mess up i don't have to buy someone else a PC.
Historically, all my video cards were ATI but that was before I was doing any real gaming. When I was assembling my gaming rig I went straight to nVidia because of how clean their software was and how reliable they were supposed to be. ATI had always frustrated me and had a bad history with me.
haha Alright I see what you mean. Well if ncix will build it then I will go with them. you can check around some sites like cyberpowerpc or ibuypower but they are normally pretty expensive. In that price range you are probably looking at a fm2 socket build which isn't a bad thing. Getting an FM2 socket cpu will allow you to add a decent GPU which is most important part.
NCIX builds a pc for $50 and will price-match any other site. They'll even install windows, which is pretty awesome. So like $600 budget for components and an extra 50 for assembling the PC.
Only thing is now to decide the case then the components. Maybe a fractal core 1000 paired with an AMD 6300?
Fractal would be awesome! Just keep an eye out for bundle deals if they have any might save you some money.
This is the build I put together so far: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/1zzlc
Haven't picked a GPU yet, also wondering how i could bring the cost down like $50 to make room for a better GPU. Any and all constructive criticism is appreciated.
Oh god, one 4gb stick of ram and an matx am3+ motherboard.
What's wrong with that? mATX fits in the core 1000 and one stick allows for a 2x4GB setup in the future.
If you know of something better, please do share. I'd love to hear your solution that is obviously so much more sophisticated than mine that you couldn't even share it or give some constructive help.
Haha. Don't be silly, what I said was semi constructive, furthermore, a build will be posted shortly.

The quad core has a lower tdp, so you can use it with the matx board, I wouldn't recommend the hex core fx6300 on such a board though
If you really want to go matx for the case, the fractal design core 1000 can be put in, and still to budget, the case in my build is overall nicer though.
Yeah William has a solid build but the fx 6300 has lower tdp then the phenom ii. The phenom ii has 125w as the fx 6300 has 95w.
Fuck.
Disregard what I said, I was thinking of the eight cores, Fx 8320, and 8350
haha It's cool it happens to everyone at one point or another.
