Build the best $550 pc question

I was looking into building a pc with the parts recommonded in the latest $550 pc build video.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wnEcF9FoTE&feature=plcp       I was wondering how long the lifespan of the pc would be.The only reason I ask is I have a friend who works at a local pc store who said i would be lucky to get 8 months out of the pc, I dont know how you determine the lifespan of a pc but if this is the case i will definitley wait until I have enough money for the $1300 build. I was also wondering what kind of games it would be able to play. I'm aware that I wont be able to play crysis 2 full settings or anything impressive like that but if I could have some fps benchmarks that would be great as well. any help would be appreciated. regards SGuitarist

I hear this all the time and the truth is this build will be fine for a long time. I still have a pc I built more than 4 years ago as my go to pc and it runs stuff lightning fast on very old hardware by todays standards but it all depend what you want it to do. You could build right now with an unlimited budget and be out dated in six months. Just build now with what you can and worry about tomorrow when it comes around. If you take care of you pc it will last you a very long time with minor upgrades allong the way.

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548 The 7870 is pretty solid in performance, this link shows the FPS in multiple games with multiple resolutions so you can get an idea of what a 7870 can do.($550 build) Reliability is far longer then 8 months, years upon years if you maintain it. PC's in general are like cars, you take care of them and they'll last longer then your interest in gaming will.

Thanks for the help. most definitley answered my questions about the build.

I am actually in the process of ordering all the parts for this build too. My budget is around the same.

Just FYI, some of the prices are a tad outdated in the video. Some are more expensive, and some cheaper. Instead of the 955, I opted to upgrade a little and get the 965 BE instead. Its only $90 on amazon. Actually, I am finding that most of these parts are cheaper on Amazon, except for the Mobo, GPU, and RAM.

I will be playing LoL, Starcraft, and Chivalry to name a few. We honestly should be able to play these on fairly high settings with no problem. Games like BF3, or Skyrim however, we might have to lower the settings a tad. FPS lag pisses me off, so lowering the settings a bit to make everything smooth is a good trade off for me.

Hope this helps.

I find who and where you get your parts from is just as important as the parts themselves. Make sure you are dealing with reputable dealers who understand a faulty part sometimes happens and are more than willing to replace them. Always check the dealers replacement warranty VS the manufacturer’s warranty. It is always nice to deal directly with the supplier of the part you just purchased.
