Hi all — I’m upgrading my personal setup for dual-purpose use:
• UX design and productivity work (Figma, Notion, browser-heavy multitasking)
• Gaming (Valorant, immersive titles like Cyberpunk 2077 at high refresh rates)
My goals are performance, thermal efficiency, and long-term reliability. Would love your perspective on component synergy, BIOS flashback workflow, and airflow planning for this mATX case setup.
⸻
Current System (Being Retired):
• Intel i5 (8th/9th Gen)
• Gigabyte B360M D3H
• NVIDIA GTX 1060 WindForce
• 16GB DDR4 RAM
• Samsung 970 EVO NVMe SSD
• EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W (retained)
• Thermaltake Core V21 mATX Cube Case (retained)
• Logitech G Pro Wireless, Razer Blackwidow
• No dedicated headphones
• Basic desk and office chair (non-ergonomic)
⸻
Upgraded Build Plan:
• CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
• Motherboard: ASUS TUF GAMING B650M-PLUS WIFI (mATX, supports BIOS Flashback)
• RAM: 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 (TEAMGROUP T-Create Expert)
• GPU: NVIDIA RTX 4070 SUPER (Founders Edition)
• SSD: Samsung 980 Pro 1TB Gen 4 NVMe
• Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S chromax.black
• PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750W (Gold, modular)
• Case: Thermaltake Core V21
• Headphones: SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless
• Desk/Chair: Desky Dual Hardwood Sit/Stand Desk + Desky Pro+ Ergonomic Chair
⸻
Primary Questions:
1. BIOS Prep – Will the B650M board’s flashback feature reliably support 7800X3D install out of the box? Tips for prep?
2. Thermal flow – With a Noctua NH-U12S and RTX 4070 Super, is the Core V21 cube layout sufficient? Should I add a rear exhaust or side intake fan?
3. Cable/power – Any benefit from upgrading PSU if I want to add a second NVMe + external devices later?
4. General balance – Is this setup overspending on GPU for 1440p OLED work/gaming use? Any other parts you’d rebalance?
⸻
Other Notes:
• System is meant to last 4–6 years minimum with modularity for work/gaming split.
• Looking at high refresh OLED for productivity + game immersion (monitor not yet chosen).
• Desk setup is ergonomically designed with cable tray, monitor riser, hidden wireless charger, and headphone hook — aesthetics matter as much as performance.
Would appreciate insight, especially from folks familiar with Ryzen 7000 + compact case thermal strategies.
