I have a friend that games mostly on his Xbox 360 and he is very interested in PC gaming. Since I'm a PC gamer, I thought it would be the right thing to help him out. He has some stuff to sell and funding from his parents. He hasn't really gotten into any specific games he likes but I know he likes:
Minecraft
Garry's Mod
Battlefield (Any Newer Ones)
Indie Games
I do want him to try games by Valve as well, but we still have a ways to go.
that a8-5600K is a little unnecessary since it has a GPU and it looks like you're purchasing a 750 ti. you could save a bit of money with buying a midrange FX chip & corresponding motherboard.
You could consider spending a bit more on a slightly beefier power supply, but with mid range pcs trending towards greater efficiency these days you could probably get away with the one you have selected. Make sure you check that that power supply meets your needs with something like http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp
The 750 ti is a good card with very tiny power consumption. If he decides in the future he wants to upgrade to the sequel to this card or an AMD equivalent, he will be fine, and I think this is the best strategy for most PC gamers. But if he wants to buy something crazy like the 970 or 980 in the future it's something to think about.
Then again power supplies don't really devalue that much. He can just sell that 380W Antec when he grows out of it.
I'm sure that gaming keyboard isn't anything amazing, just go on ebay or craigslist and buy something really basic and cheap, spend the money you saved there on a better gaming mouse as that's what he will notice more.
Tell him to look around for a bigger monitor or TV on craigslist. you can just google if it has a good response time. I personally couldn't stand to game on a 21 inch monitor for very long, but it's all personal preference. I'm looking at 27-32 inch tv's with a good response time for a guest lan party pc and finding a lot in my area that are good for $50-100. Just need to get off my ass and buy one
dont forget hat he should also slowly get better fans, unless he wants to buy them straight out, i recently spent $130 on quality fans for both my computers, a place like pccasegear.com has great quality fans
This build is pretty much perfect. For $10 more you can get a CX600M. It is only 80+ Bronze rated but it is modular and will let you upgrade to a better GPU easily.
Look you may be able to get an FX6300 and an M5A97 for the same price which would be much better interms of CPU power.
