Budget opened up! ah

budget opened up by a decent amount so I can now afford arounda 900-950 dollar tower. Looking for more opinions on builds before I pull the trigger and do something foolish. So far this is what I have with room to throw a few dollars into a better GPU or something really. I post here a lot so my posts are probably annoying but any help is appreciated. This is what I have right now

Oh please.. Just take your previous build and make the CPU/GPU better. THAT'S IT. In your case, get a better motherboard or a faster GPU.

My gosh where do I start

Change your PSU to the NZXT Hale82 650W, it's cheaper, it's modular, and it's more efficient. It's also well built so no worries there.

If you want to stick with the 7870, Spring for the XT - for some reason it's cheaper than the one you have listed there, maybe because of a sale. If not, try and fit a 7950 or even a GTX 670 into the build.

If this is gaming only then that's a perfectly fine build right there but for other applications like editting, up your CPU to an FX 8350 - great bang for the buck.

My budget is around the same as yours and this is what I have set up in mine

Your setup is almost exactly the more expensive route I was thinking. I thought about jumping to the 8350 but if I did that I'd want a better mobo. Also the one I have listed on that list is the MSI Hawk version, heard very good things about it. But I figured I'd keep the 6300 to save 60 bucks or so and dump that into the GPU fund. there's been debate on whether or not the 7950 or GTX's are better but I've seen both in action so I think either should be fine.

I'd also heard that the 8350 kind of slows down while gaming and is practically needed to OC to get it to good performance. Does it work well for you?

You can stick with the 6300 then, I've heard fine things about that CPU and you save some money. Both Radeon GPU's and GTX GPU's work fine, it just depends how high up you want to reach. The 7870 is beaten ever so slightly by the 660 Ti (not worth the money in my opinion), followed by the 7870 XT, then the 7950, and the GTX 670, but is much more expensive.

I was worried when I read posts online trashing the 8350, but Logan put my mind at east as well as a few other recent benchmarks that put the 8350 above the i5 3570k and just under the 3770k. Basically, Microsoft released updated hot fixes that allow the CPU to run stable and perform better overall.

I'm planning on building this rig after my finals in a week, so I can't really tell you how good or bad it is from experience, but the 8350 has gotten a lot better since its release, or so I've been told. Best of luck with yours man, tell me how it goes!

Didn't Logan benchmark it against the i5 and i7 and it came out similarly in FPS? I also may be doing some photo editing when I start college(photography student) so the 8350 may be what I need for the future as well. So many choices.

He benchmarked it against the i5 and i7 yes, using the same GPU that you have. In 90% of the cases it came  out beating the i5, and very nearly matching the i7. Thing is, the 8350 is cheaper than BOTH of them. So it's great performance for your money.

Also, and I may have asked this before, but does anyone have thoughts on the best motherboard for overclocking the 8350? Cheaper the better

AMD FX8350

Motherboard: Asus M5A99 FX pro rev 2.0

oh yeah and notice, chance the ramm you have in this build to ramm with a low heat spreader, cause that cpu cooler will cover the first ramm slot, so onley ramms with low heat spreader will fitt, or you have to install the ramm in slot 2/4 i can advice  for some rendering stuff to put in 2x8 GB crosair vengance with low heat spreader 1600 mhz .

or you have to install the cpu fan to the otherside of the cooler, but thats not natural

o yeah by the way  the Asus Sabbertooth 990FX gen3 r2.0 is out, the first board with pci-e 3.0 (for those who like it) ☻

Yeah I'm fitting the Sabertooth in my build. Every time I go to buy it everywhere is sold out but it isn't right now so I'm about to order it. And the G.skill sniper should be low enough for the heatsink as many of my friends got that heatsink and corsair ram and it didn't fit but the sniper series ram did
