Budget GPU?

Hi i'm new here.

I recently built a computer, but I don't have a graphics card yet.  I'm looking for something cheap (around the $120-200 range), but can still play modern games with pretty good performance on a single 1080p monitor

The rest of my system goes as follows:

Intel core-i5 2500k - cpu

gigabyte ga-z77-d3h - motherboard

Corsair Vengence 8gb 1600mhz CL9

thermaltake 500w powersupply

7850 nuff said, or 650 ti? not sure about the last one

You should get a gtx 560 ti. You should buy it on black friday or cyber monday. It should be cheaper.

Don't listen to this guy the 600 series is way better and it'll be about as cheap as the 500 series on black friday

nvidia fanboys..... their everywhere

get the 7950, 7870 or 7850.....

Also to avoid confusion, the 560ti IS much faster than a 650ti.  But I agree, either get the 7850 or see what 7950/7870 deals pop up later in the week

Just $30 more and you can get an EVGA GTX 660 2GB Superclocked or HIS HD7870 GHZ-Edition. Really nice GPUs for the price.

HD 7850 is just as good for the price, but you get what you pay for.

What? I see no fanboism in his post. As for the HD7950... totally over the budget. I can stand with HD7800 tho :)

7870 WILL overclock a lot more though and you'll get more value out of it.

If you like PhysX in your games, then pick up a 560Ti.  Otherwise it really depends what games you're playing.  The 560Ti 1GB beats the 7850 2GB in some games, but not majority.  I personally like Nvidia because I like getting updates often to improve performance on newer games (and because of PhysX)

Don't forget FXAA (TXAA for 600-series and supported titles) and extra graphical options (ambient occlusion and Ray-tracing for example).

Ahh, thank you!  Forgot about that.

I freaking love FXAA on my 560Ti.  I switched to FXAA in Skyrim the other day from using 8xAA, and now I get like 20 more fps and the game looks just as crisp  :)  therefore it's definitely the best thing ever

implying amd doesn't have an equivalent.....

Exactly.  AMD has no equivalent to TXAA.  TXAA and PhysX are primarily Nvidia features (some AMD cards can enable FXAA in a few games though)

(couldn't tell if you were objecting or just making a statement, sorry lol)

Radeon have MSAA which is the best looking, but also the hardest hitter on your framerate. Only the bravest people with serious Radeon horsepower dare to turn it on :)
