Budget build

going to build a pc for my cousin starting college. he said 400-500 (USD) but id really like something closer to 400 to save him the money. I think he will do a little bit of gaming on it but he is taking some sort of recording classes or something to do with audio if that makes sense. please help me out i havent built a computer in a while

**** sorry didnt think it through.. he does not need a monitor or any peripherals just the computer. I have a copy of windows 7 for him too

Does he plan to overclock?

Does he need an operating system, or any peripherals?

hes not very computer savvy so probably wont overclock. I think it would be better to go AMD and have a videocard.

400$ , and he can get a gpu later on .

If he games ( I didn't get if he did any actual gaming ) you can modify the build to accomodate for that , just that a 120$ gpu down the road like at xmass is best for this tight of a budget .

If he wants gaming .

Didn't choose a overly ugly case , but it can be made a bit better.

it doesn't matter what the case looks like. the power is more important in my family. i think it might be better to spend less on the case, I think I have an extra cpu heatsink I can give him. so use that money on either the cpu or more ram or both

also, he plays alot of video games on the 360. and has played some pc games in the past I just dont know how much it will translate over when he gets this thats why I think it will probably be important to have a video card

try this ... see what you think  ... IMO bare minimum requirements for entry level gaming ... but It will game quite well!

if you use your cooler it will cost about him $410

FX-4130 is quite poor in performance...

Should be a decent overall system: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Fz2tLk

Under $500 before tax and mail in rebates.

thanks man this rig is definitely my favorite so far.

factor in that the 4130 is not $20 more  .. but $10 cheaper now .. advantage 4130 by   .02
