  • Want to overclock to around 4.2-4.5
  • No water cooling
  • OS = Thinking of booting off a "free" disk of windows (torrents? IS IT POSSIBLE?) Probably getting a free copy from a friend though

If you Game- Yes.

  • I would like to play at full 1080p, ultra all settings 60 fps (dream on...).

^ That's the build I'm Thinking of. I only included the fan controller because the mobo doesnt support 5 fans, plus I think its kinda cool :P.

Total on newegg in cart is $892

Waiting to buy until Black Friday.

I really cant go over 900. IT has to be below it, and I like the bells and whistles i have, unless you have something with green leds to match my Tiamats, and my black widow keyboard.

QUESTION:

CPU cooler clearance in case is 160mm, the 212 evo is 159mm... Has anyone fit one in this case? Would it be a problem?

Other than that, let me know if i have a good build on my hands or not?!

ALSO HERE ARE MY PERIPHERALS:

Monitor is a gift, razer stuff was picked up off a craigslist deal. No joke, $85 for all of it....

Damn good deal on those peripherals.  I'm using the same keyboard now, thanks to someone selling it here on TekSyndicate.

Change that power supply to something at least 80+.  You won't regret it.  EVGA, Seasonic, Corsair, XFX, FD, Antec are brands I would, in general, recommend.

To be honest, the thermal compound that comes with the Hyper 212 EVO/Hyper 212+ is fine.  You don't need to spend more money on thermal paste that might cool down the CPU 1-2c.  Also a push+pull configuration only sees an improvement of maybe 1-2c.  In my opinion, it's not worth the money.  The stock Hyper 212 EVO is good, but I like the Hyper 212+ as it's cheaper.  You'll only get around a 5-6c difference if you compare the stock Hyper 212+ with a Hyper 212 EVO with thermal paste and another fan.

Using the money saved I managed to fit in a Kingston 120GB SSD.  I'd highly recommend this.

Thanks man! I about pooped myself when I talked the guy down to 85 bucks lol. But I had the 4 pack of fans as case fans, 2 intakes in the front, one intake on bottom, 2 exhaust top, and the rear pre installed would be on my mobo. So you think I'd bed good with clearance on the 212 plus? I do like the fact that you got a SSD in there though

I just checked the Source 210, and see that it only has one fan.  I'd get at least one intake in the front and leave the one in the back as an outtake.  I think that you were planning to put too many fans in there :P.

Did a quick google search and yeah, the hyper 212+ should fit just fine.

well if that's the case, I'd still rather get the 4 fans, just keep it running real cool like. Although, I don't need the fan controller, if I got those fans, how would I hook them all up? I'm assuming some sort of splitter but I'm not sure

If anyone should know how you dont need very much fans to keep components cool. I had a coolermaster cosmos 2, I had 4 fans blowing towards my gpu. Now that I have a corsair c70 I only have 2 fans blowing on the gpu. I ONLY NOTICED A 4-5 C temperature difference. as long as you have good airflow in and out then it's up to the cooler on the gpu to do its job and the same with the cpu

so you'd think i'd be ok with just 2 fans, one exhaust one intake? If that's so, i could drop the fan controller, and just have some sort of splitter to run the two?

Went to newegg's site and checked the motherboard:

1 x CPU Fan connector(s) (4 -pin)
3 x Chassis Fan connector(s) (4 -pin)

You should be fine with up to 3 case fans.  My old case had 2 fans and I didn't have problems with an OC'd Intel Core2Duo e8600 with a Hyper 212+.

Well that's embarrassing... Haha, so revised build!: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1ZuuP

Its about $26 over budget... But I think I'll be able to live.

As for performance, you think I'll be able to overclock the cpu to 4.5 or so? Will this machine play bf4 with ultra settings 45-60fps?

Looks like a good build.

You'll be able to reach 4Ghz without increasing voltage.  It depends on your chip, really.  Voltage is what pretty much kills your chip.  AMD might have a recommended number of the max voltage to give to the chip.  4GHz should be good enough for awhile, though.

Gnarly man, I appreciate all the help. I'll be building this around Christmas so I'll post the build then! Thanks!

I'll be lookin out for it!
