I think it should be measured by the amount of time people actually mine instead of how much they mine. cause it wouldnt be fair for someone to mine 24/7 with a slower mhash and not be able to get at the good stuff. sure its important how much they can actually contribute but it should be noted how much time they have put into it. In my opinion it wouldnt be fair to someone with a slower mhash who leave their system on 24/7 to be heavily outweighed by someone who only does it a few hours a day with a high mhash. It should also be taken into consideration how much mhash is actually being measured here cause again someone with a 50 mhash 24/7 vs someone with a 400+ mhash 24/7 is gonna big a huge diff. They are both mining 24/7 just totally diff speeds. So would that make the 50 mhash 24/7 person unable to get a 7970 just cuse hes not contributing as much as the 400+ mhash?
My thoughts are we keep doing the game giveaways as they are a low cost option, and people will enjoy competing for those.
For graphics cards: I think the most fair way to do this is a tiered system based on shares and capacity. Maybe like 3 tiers of miners (you'll have to figure out what these are) . Lower teir will get 7790s, middle 7870, and top tier 7970/7990s. This will be slighlty less efficient than just giving 7970s, but I think people will find it fairer. Also graphics cards should only be given with a personal guarantee that it will be run at least a specified minimum number of hours per day.
this seems to be fairest, along with the post above about it being based on time rather than efficiency, because those who mine the most would give the most benefit to the pool with boosted speeds.
Yeah, that's what we really want however, as far as we know there's no way to actually tell how much time people have spent mining (you can calculate average MHash and divide by number of shares etc. but that is too difficult and time consuming to calculate for every user.) So we are considering resetting the pool every month and then taking the number of share mined in the last month as an indicator of activity and commitment.
I guess here is a good place to add that we are taking into account AMD vs Nvidia. We are maybe going to divide the pool in two, AMD and NVidia, and then running two seperate competitions. This is all in its infancy though. Trust me, we have been discussing the prize giveaways in mumble for about 3 hours together.
HD7950 for me. I don't have an 8-pin PCI power connector ;)
Instead of "$2k worth of hardware" what about Butterfly Labs Bitcoin miners? Far more efficient than a HD7970.
Ok that makes sense and the amd nvidia groups is even better. I thought there would be a way to log peoples active time. i just dont want to see the people with slow mhash get left behind when they also putting in lots of effort. I dont have a mhash problem just trying to look out for the slower peeps.
Nice idea, i like it :)
Not all of us do, in my case, i have a almost 10 year old pc, with a P4 Dual, DDR2 RAM, and an old Nvidia Geforce 210.
Im sure anyone in my situation would LOVE a whole PC.
However i do think 7970 upgrades are appropriate, a GPU upgrade is not only a benefit for the recipient, but it is also an upgrade to the Mining team.
I think $2k is a bit overboard .
With Newegg you can build a beast for half that.
I agree with everything you've said except your last sentence. Between work, school, and general gaming, the only time I can mine is during the night while I'm asleep, even then I may not be able to mine every single night.
Depends on how many hours per day you're thinking about, I guess; if it's within a reasonable amount then I agree whole-heartidly.
Yeah, its a problem and tomorrow i'll release a massive post (probably in its own thread) that attempts to adress all of these concerns
it doesnt really matter how much. You just have to say that you'll mine 10 hours a day (or whatever you can commit to, it doesn't matter what the amount is). And then, you should try and commit to the amount you promised. It's not at all us forcing you to mine but rather you trying to commit to an amount.
Hope that clarified it.
I had two of them when I was a kid! (I think I might still have them in a box somewhere).
Yup, thats been taken into consideration. Dont worry, noone is getting a piece of hardware that is incompatible with their current setup.
Well GPU's would be a good idea concidering that is what we are mainly using, maybe even cases and cooling solutions, making their components last longer and therefore creating more money at the same time for the guys at tek syndicate.
Also, the butterfly labs things dont exist. So no, it is not more efficient to buy them lol
Yeah, dont worry, we wont just be wasting everyone's work on pointless stuff. I was just floating around ideas to see what you all wanted. We are going to probably run a pretty complicated gpu give away process that takes into account heaps of things.
Tomorrow i will be making a massive post that covers heaps of things. It should answer everyone's concerns and queries regarding the giveaways.
that will definitely be the main giveaway item. We also need some cheaper stuff though to give away though so that we have enough prizes so that enough people are winning stuff.

Thats a approximate of what gear i would shove in there, with a $2k price limit. However almost every one of them can be cut back and still be a monster.
How about this?
plain and simple: components. (specifacally and more frequently AMD GPUs for mining)
But here's the thing, not everyone can house a 7970, as i know my case can't, maybe there could be some leway worked into it so the winner can choose between say maybe 3 components.
also, I don't think we should do "BIG 7970" give aways yet, as it just started picking up speed and i'm afraid alot of the youtube joiners might drop out after a few weeks or months
~just wanted to throw that out there
yeah, that's cool
we understand compatibility is a big issue. We won't be giving people stuff that wont work with their current hardware. And prizes will only be given to dedicated people. There is a minimum shares eligibility requirement and we will also contact them to make sure its not going to waste.
Hope that clarifies that
