Some sites seem to have a new and improved consent thing.

Arstechnica sounds like “nuts to you we’ll do it anyway”

They do have a set of new buttons too for specifically objecting to things but they are followed by that above. I don’t know the specifics or law but the button more feel like little “I’m doing something” feel goods and then they sag well whatever you chose above we still keep all this information and do whatever we want with it.

I don’t understand how a site has to have an on/off toggle for some of the places they sell the data to, but not others?
Like, sometimes it has “go to creepy stalker site to get a cookie saying you would rather they did not keep gathering more data on you” instead of a radial to stop sending the info.

It makes the whole forced check seem irrelevant, especially when cookies are only a very small part of the tracking portfolio used against victims.
