Browser history

My mother received a call the other day about about my sister (who has downs syndrome) misbehaving online. Being the computer tech of the family (having become A+ certified on the 8th), they handed me her computer to see if I could find the exact videos she was watching. Unfortunately, Firefox was set to not record browsing history, which leaves me trudging through the browser cache (which only goes back to the 8th).

Is there any way to retrieve the url that provided the cached data so that I can see its more complete form?
Is there any way to view the videos that she was watching?
Is there another location I can search to find this data?

I already have CacheViewer for Firefox.

Thank you for your help.

I’m guessing a carer saw her watching videos they didn’t want her watching?

Have you asked her? Or the carer, what the video was.

Is it just a “for fun” exerciser for you? (its not worth it if it isnt)
Firefox sometimes holds some data in some of the sqlite db’s it uses, but if it doesnt hold browser data theres not going to be much there. If your really worried about what she does online, use something like opendns so you can better control what sites are available or not.

My sister’s living situation is slightly complicated. She also has a habit of lying. She can’t comprehend time very well, so we have no idea when this started.

The reason I’m doing this is to help my parents decide if they should let my sister keep her laptop at all. Regardless of what I find or don’t find, I am going to restrict its internet access. I need to know what sites (specific web pages, not just the site name) she has visited.

You’re not going to get specific pages, cache will give you assets from pages. You could look at reverse lookups to find what page the asset was on, but id question the value in doing that it’s a lot of work. It’s surprising it was set not to record history as that’s not the default option.

You could spend some time understanding how firefox holds data and you might be able to get a little more information, but again, the time cost for that is quite high considering the outcome isn’t going to change anyway (filter internet and have her ask for access to blocked sites for example).

I know downs syndrome can be difficult  i don’t envy your position.

If you need options for locking the laptop down that’s fairly easy.

Thanks for your help.
