Broken SSD

SO my friend has this broken ssd. it doesnt work for more than an hour. however, i offered him 30 dollars for it and he said he was willing to sell it. is there any way i can salvage something from it or get it fixed for cheap. all i know is that it works for about 55 minutes  and then all the data going throught it becomes corrupt and the os crashes. he also cant update the firmware

Stick it in a computer and run: chkdsk /f

Beyond that check the S.M.A.R.T. utility to diagnose individual problems.

check disk came up with nothing.
ill use smart when i get it and come back i guess

Sorry, make sure you run it off the correct drive. If you just do it like that it will run off drive c. Chkdsk  x: /f    x being the drive letter.

Is it a Crucial M4?

yeah it thats drive. the firmware update failed 4 different times

he did the check disk on the correct drive. i can verify that.

Are you getting an error? What did SMART say?

what is smart

I apologize for not giving clarification. S.M.A.R.T. is a utility used by almost every modern storage drive to give an accurate and detailed report of the overall health of the drive.

If you went back and did the correct way of doing dskchk (I replied with the proper way, the first way I told you checked your C: drive and not the SSD) then the easiest way to check the SMART records is to download HDtune (google it.)

ill run it and check after work
