Broadwell-E Potential Upgrade

Hey! I've recently placed an order for a 6850k and I'm fairly certain I'll do a build with it instead of trying to sell it. I'm really torn between the motherboard options, and honestly am not very sure what I want out of the computer to begin with. Currently I have an i7-4790k 16GB DDR3, R9 390, HX750I, 960GB SSD + 5TB HDD, 4TB Raid 1, and another 1TB HDD.

I'm really not sure if I should simply upgrade my existing build, or build something separate... I think right now I'm mostly looking for suggestions on what I should do in my situation.

Thanks!

It really depends on what kind or work load you have. If your just building a gaming rig, then the 6850k is overkill. If your going to use adobe for video and photo editing, then you may want to look for some test results on adobe cpu core use. I think you will be surprised with how little some of the extra cores are used with adobe. However, if your doing video editing I would upgrade to more ram, something like 32gb, especially if your editing 1080 or 4k videos. Other than that you may want to look at a new x99 board like the Taichi or the last board Wendell reviewed. They are both very solid boards and you wont go wrong with either.

I know it is overkill, I had the opportunity to buy the 6850k for $200 and jumped on it.. I really don't do much which is a big reason why I feel that I need a bigger list of reasons to do something with it than: just because.

I've looked at both reviews multiple times, and looked at the options for motherboards. This definitely is a big obstacle I'm trying to overcome, these motherboards are all so expensive, and I'd need to get DDR4 RAM. I'd get more parts if I were building another tower vs upgrading what's in mine already.

It's quite a tough decision and I feel like the biggest reason I want to upgrade is simply because the opportunity exists and it would be a fun project :x
