Brightness Problem (only happens in Windows)

A rather annoying problem that happens on my laptop while I'm running windows: for some reason, whenever I adjust the brightness, the white balance likes to change as well. It makes it very difficult to see certain lines on the screen whenever I have my screen set at a high brightness. However, this doesn't happen when I'm running on Linux distros. I'd like to use windows from time to time, but I'm getting fed up with the white balance issue. Any suggestions?

Laptop Specs of concern

  • Dell Inspiron M5040
  • AMD E-450 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 1.65 GHz
  • Currently running Windows 8

has windows installed the Radeon HD graphics correctley in the device manager? or does it run on the standard gpu driver from windows itself?

Maybe this might help. Try disabling Vari-Bright in the AMD controll panel. its under the power section in "powerplay" try it with that off. I was having issues with that setting conflicting with Windows 8 brightness controlls on my laptop.
