Boot Issues, Need Ideas what the problem might be

I have done a build or two without any issues, but this is something that I cannot seem to figure out.

After putting it together, it worked for a few hours, temps were fine, no overclock. Then it randomly shut off, and would not turn back on. Thought it was a bad PSU, and confirmed by trying a different one. The replacement came, but no avail, still won't turn on. Found that the HDD was the issue, and put a spare one in for the time being.

It will not boot whatsoever, not even POST. When I plug it in, the fans start spinning (without pressing the power button), and the power and reset do not do anything.

Right now I believe there might be a problem with my Mobo (or CPU, no idea which), and a friend thinks it's the GPU from what I told him.

Any suggestion would be helpful, thanks in advance.

Do you have the mobo speaker installed? Does it not beep when you power your pc up?

If not then there is an issue with the Mobo, if you havent tried resetting the bios then do it now.

Your mobo might not be dead, maybe its just bending or shorting out. Try removing the mobo and run it on a test bench/carton with the stock cooler installed. I had a mobo once that wouldnt post with either of two aftermarked coolers installed, even if they were only loosely on the CPU --->installed the stock intel cooler and what do you know, works just fine.

  • Check that the ram is in the correct slot - consult you manual for layout. Change out dimms if you have some to choose from. Just test with 1 dimm at a time. You may have a bad stick.
  • Check every power connection again.
  • Use a gpu that you know works - anything will do.
  • Dont plug in any hdds etc. Just have the bare essentials out on a test bench.
  • Unplug the front io panel cables from the board, to turn on just use a flat head screwdriver and short the pwr connections to boot.
  • Any suspicions about the motherboard being a dud (its a low end model anyway do I wouldnt be surprised) RMA it right away.

Best of luck.

Thanks for all of those suggestions, it turns out that the fan on the PSU wasn't spinning. So I'm getting a different PSU altogether, and RMAing the mobo and HDD.
